Good shit, if you can do it in the Kaimais you can do it anywhere in NZ.
Good stuff Rusky, There were a few people up there on Sunday, Weather was a bit crappy, Me and a mate were around the Mangamuka Hut area. Found a lot of sign but did not see any deer, One day tho .............
Only the dedicated or the lucky get to take an animal in the Kaimai bush...fringe hunting is productive in the Kaimais, but not everyone gets to take one in the bush...as someone else said "if you can take one in the Kaimais, you can take one anywhere"...good skills and nice rifle.
And one in three is about average...even hunting out my back door I only average seeing one deer in three sits [long range fringe hunting]

Which is worse, ignorance or apathy...I don't know and don't care.
Well done Rusky. A week will be long enough for the aging.
It takes 43 muscle's to frown and 17 to smile, but only 3 for proper trigger pull.
What more do we need? If we are above ground and breathing the rest is up to us!

Well done Rusky! Great to see all your hard work has payed off. Beautiful old rifle you go there too.
As for aging in the fridge, I normally bone the legs out, stack all the meat in roasting trays loosely covered with glad wrap and leave it for at least 3-4 days before processing. Meat comes up very tender and very tasty!
Hunting is not a hobby.....its an addiction
Congrats
Good stuff mate ,,,,,you earn them up there huh
DONT BE A FOOL INDENTIFY YOUR TARGET BEFORE YOU PULL
'Love the brno, and its a hand me down from my grandfather.'.....great keeping that hunting tradition alive....kudos Rusky.....

Got a wee problem at the moment though. The Millet Steel rings i put on last weekend have already got a bit of rust despite oiling them before and after hunt. Should i be concerned? Secondly the barrell being quite old also has rust in it after storage or cleaning next day despite oiling and putting numerous swabs through it. Any advice is appreciated.
nice deer rusky, was in there on Wednesday myself. no luck but found some bedding spots and a old wallow, plenty of sign but yet again i got up there too late in the morn.
