I have a lot of respect for Steve and his ability to articulate a hunters perspective. I think it would be fair to say he doesn’t have a good grasp on the way things are here and our own challenges we face. Rightly so too, he is after all much more involved in the american/overseas scene then ours. Would love to see him back here again doing a real wild backcountry hunt. With some more education on NZ he would probably appreciate our options much more.
EDIT: I would have bowled the other stag too haha
Been binge watching Meat eater episodes on the tube since last couple of days, thanks to Diwali off. Loved the pig hunting episode. If those stags were on private land what $ they go for?
Would love to get me a set of nice racks sometime in non Covid future.
He also filmed in Scotland

He Recovers ALL of the meat and said he had the rest of the day packing it out with the one stag. That second stag was in his prime and carried a top notch head so better to leave him as a breeder regardless. Come back and take him when he's grey on the muzzle.
After the fording of the glacier river on the Tahr hunt he's earnt my respect. Even with the chest waders, the cold from that glacier water with chunks of ice going past would penetrate to the marrow - the bones would be aching like they were broken.
Yeah that was something else. I was getting shivers seeing him wading that river. He is so different than average yank hunting program host, no high fives, no over the top celebrations. I subscribed to Netflix just to watch his show (I did not know its on the youtube) .
I hope he stays as he is now and doesn't F%(k up one way or another and be my hero to look up to always.
I've actually been really surprised how many great US hunting channels there are on YouTube. Been an eye-opener to me. I was one of those blinkered folk who thought most hunted from blinds beside a corn feeder. But seeing some of the elk and muley hunting at 11,000 ft plus etc with lightweight gear has really opened my eyes and realised how ignorant I was.....
I see in the comments on Youtube that this was actually shot a few years ago....
Meat Eater ? Rinella?
Years ago he was in NZ, Remis been there for a while an is proberly over it now days with all the Tahr destruction.....
Yeah, Not sure there is ONE kiwi who wouldnt have shot both Stags and any other stags that they didnt see, Especially if a bachelor group ! OHH brooo Velvet antlers lets eat em up
it is good the oldest meat eater episodes are comng onto free to watch youtube,. thats reeal good viewing with alot of message. the adventure is real in most episodes, and wa without doubt the biggest influence for me taking on the sthern alps.... an world![]()
The Tahr one was very good, you wouldn’t have got me wading that river, the stag one was ok, private land probably had to pay for it but I do admire his values and the way he portrays hunting.
Shut up, get out & start pushing!
