It started with a txt from @Kiwi Greg last weekend "are you and your boy free to go annoy some goats this afternoon?" unfortunately I wasn't but a plan was hatched for this weekend.
Greg picked us up after our morning range visit and we headed off, arriving at the block we glassed the open areas but nothing was out and about yet so we stalked off down a track, We hadnt gone far at all when we heard some goats then a bit later saw them.
Unaware, they were the perfect opportunity for my Son to have a shot so a short belly crawl to a shootable position and a young billy presenting broadside at about 70-80y was dispatched with a clean shot from his shortened stock, suppressed 223 congratulations ,handshakes and photos done we carried on to see what else we could find.
Nothing more in that area so we went to look at another spot and had barely walked 100y and Greg spied a pig, it didn't argue with the 7mm08.
A pattern was starting to form with the boy getting really loud after something is shot and the excitement and we had to keep reminding him to be quiet....and then there was the hiccups!
Carrying on we hadn't gone too far before I spied a billy and shot that with the boys rifle and then there were more.....photos and carry on.
Eventually we caught up with another group of goats that were unaware and got the boy set up, it was a bit more tricky with the fold of the land hiding some view and the animals feeding arse on and only going broadside when behind another, eventually one presented a shot and he squeezed off, another good shot at 100-120y it dropped on the spot than all hell broke loose as the 7mm08 cut a swathe threw the mob.
Walking back to the truck the boy had about done his lot as he lagged behind but after a few snacks out of my bag and he soon perked up.
Great afternoon and a very happy lad thanks Greg.
