Managed a quick hunt yesterday arvo. It ended up being a dad and daughter hunt and a last hoorah as the property I was hunting on has being sold and haven't yet got in touch with the new owner.....as yet. Even though there could of been pigs around I wasn't too worried as I was after goats for some dog tucker. I had taken the quad with me to give it a run and to help pack out any meat/bodies etc. Saw a mob , scoped them out spied the biggest billy well the one carrying the biggest horns. One shot later it was down for the count. Hand in hand with my daughter we walked up the hill to retrieve the billy. Without thinking too much about it I whipped out the knife to cut its throat, bleed and to start taking the legs off. I happened to look up and see my daughter standing about 5 meters away with her hands over her eyes. Oooopps 'you alright baby?' 'I'm okay dad I just don't like seeing the blood' 'yeah ok fair enough. I have to do this do I can use the meat for the dogs darling' 'it's ok dad' . Finished the bizzo and wanted to take the head back. I had the legs attached to a strip of skin and being a billy it was a bit stinky n didn't really want to chuck it over my shoulder so I asked Erika(my daughter) if she wanted to carry the head back. 'Eww yuk dad' oops again 'how about you carry my rifle' 'ok dad' alright this is how you carry it and walked back with her to the quad.
Rode on a bit further, parked the quad and going to sus out another spot 'we'll go for a bit of a walk then we'll stop n have a muesli bar' 'ok dad' hadn't walked very far m spotted some goats on the bush edge sunning themselves. Went another 10 meters n could see past a ridge line into a small gully n 'oooh there's some big billies in there' Erika wasn't going to be up for a stalk so said stay by this rock n have your bar n I'll go n have a closer look. Long n short of it multiple shots later n 8 goats down. Furthest billy shot about 70-80 meters all others quite a bit closer. Whipped the back legs off until I had a load and the biggest set of horns I headed back to Erika who had being very patiently waiting for me to get back. For all the safety nanas out there I know this wasn't a ideal situation but I know my child and all firearm
safety rules were applied . I asked her when I got if she was ok she'd said she was then showed me how she had being playing around with the rock. Total tally for the afternoon 9 goats, one rabbit n one turkey and a cool afternoon out with my daughter . Unfortunately I forgot to take heaps of pics and none of Erika as her cuteness would be too much for this forum......lol.the end result and one each of two billies
Enjoy
