Had planned for a week or so two fly into one of the highest bivs in the Ruahines for a bit of a pre roar look around for our trip planned at the end of the month, the weather on Wednesday put an end two that idea no bird would get us there, we'd be in the snow and blowing like no ones business.
Bugger bag was already packed, mrs said clear off
A few texts two Dundee for a rough forecast suggested it was rather average down the line
Forcast for Thursday was good so we may as well go,
Arrived two wind and rain, but went up the hill for a look a see anyhow.
Was sitting here when a young yearling walked out that looked tasty so the 300 Terminator sent one on its way at around 300 yards. It dropped like no one business was very impressed with how Berger 230 grain pills performed massive damage
Next day up on the hill nice and early two a fantastic dawn.
We saw 16 animals spread up this gully some very nice stags amongst them, we had a light breeze up our arse so rather than blow the chance we sat tight at around 2000yards and watched them, kicking myself for not bringing a proper camera, at around 8 someone hit the switch and they all headed of into the bush for the day.
We planned on heading two the top of the big hill in the photo at around 4 and waiting for them
Dundee came out when his milking was done so went south with the breeze in our face, Dundee headed of into a hot spot two do his bush hobbit thing
We parked up and waited hopefully for a bang but it was not two be, Dundee had two get back two feed his cows, we both said we'd catch up again in a few weeks.
After a big walk that arvo the waiting game started, after a bit of glassing I found a hind in the middle of this hill by the toi toi bush in the middle right of photo
We watched her for a while hopping the mob we saw in the morning would appear, it eventually became obvious daylight was against us and I decided this hind would full the freezer
Ranged it at 780 yards new the 7/375 was bang on at that range sent an Amax on the way
Solid hit she rolled about 150 yards down the hill into the busy gully, bloody steep that hill,
Eventually I found her did wish I hadn't left the dog behind.
Dragged her out into the open for a pic for packing her out.
It was a bloody big walk
Never done a hunt a hunt report before, it's telling me I can only post 6 photos wtf the rest will follow.
Two deer in the chiller all in all a good mid week hunt.
Hope you enjoyed a simple farmers righting style
