This is the best river crossing method: https://www.google.co.nz/url?sa=t&rc...atlvihxfQGCmU7
It does require practice but allows quick safe recovery to the bank of a party member who looses their footing.

I have covered it on the forum before and had a deal for forum members for 150 mtr coils of light strong rope and carabina's through Hampedjan ? in Nelson

Thanks Moa Hunter, that's very good reading. I've never heard of that 2 rope technique before. Using two ropes looks a whole lot safer than the whole party locking arms and shuffling across. I appreciate the real world experience and testing that went into that report.

that makes sobering reading..and I have met some of the people mentioned in it....
Ive crossed some dodgy streams in the past..Ive also taught and helped teach river crossing using what are now deemed out of date methods...a stout staff/manuka pole sure as shit make the job easier on your own or with a mate downstream of you (being a solid/fat prick Im always at top breaking the flow)
hmm that bit of paracord sitting in side pocket of pack coiled up might come in handy one day.
    75/15/10 black powder matters

I was really impressed when I read it too.
In all reality it is just a modification of the rope assisted crossing method used by the military. The two ropes and being able to quickly pull a downed person back to the bank is the key to safety.
If you would like to meet at the Waimak for some practice I am keen and will bring three ropes

Another great video. I’m running one of those stocks and they’re amazing. Light, stiff and take a beating.
If anyone is after one I recommend you contact Fisherman and order one, he’s great to deal with and you won’t be disappointed.
