    Sometimes its just too easy!

Today after a 6 day week at work felt like going for a bush stalk for a deer. Decided as my shoulder is getting pretty dodgy again i travel light.
Grabbed my Stoneycreek 25L pack, the trusty 243 and was off at 410am .
Arrived at the spot just on light, parked the car, headed down the bank and attempted to cross the river. Well, the river had alot more water in it than expected.

After 3 attempts, and thinking by the time i got to the middle it was pretty dodgy, very difficult to keep upright i just wasnt going to risk having a swim or worst so pulled the pin on that idea.
Maybe you get across, but by yourself i wasnt risking it so cursing the wasted 15 mins i headed back to the car and try plan B.

Well, hugging the bank on the short walk back where you go up the bank i saw some fresh deer marks. Bugger, must of been here early this morning.
A few feet in front of me was some broom and scrub and thats where the deer marks headed to. Well, fu k me, suddenly the scrub came alive, a animal crashes of and i realze that its the deer that made the marks.

Didnt even have a round in the mag, so grabbed one out of my pocket, loaded one in quick while i hoped back in the creek bed. 50 yards in front of me a Spiker was running away from me.
It stopped, i had it lined up in the crosshairs butk only shot was a texas heart shot which i turned down.
It then bolted right up the bank and BOOM a 100gr Fed Powershok was on its way and i heard the thump of the hit.

Five seconds later the stags rolling back down into the creek...wow, what a piece of luck.
Gutted it, carried it back to the car for the short walk and was on the way home by 645am after some mucking around. Sometimes the hard yards pays off with a easy one

    Cheers

Shoulder survived it better than i expected so that was good. Yes, when gutting it it was the fullest fat guts ive ever seen lol. he must of be gorging himself all night.
Shot was way to far back, broke its ribs but the 243 round still killed it no problem and thankful not much mess at all and didnt hit the guts so that was a bonus as shooting on the run there didnt know what to expect
but havnt lost a animal yet with the 243 so the records still intacted

Think it may have a tear. Been out of action for a little while, then got a injection into it. Ultrasound showed just some swelling so Dr thought it be ok after the injection.
was for awhile, started lifting at work again and been on a couple of hunts and fishing. But last week started aching bad again, doesnt feel good.
Still can lift, survived today but think the injection is just wearing of and poain is still there.
Prob need to get a MRI scan to see what the problem is soon i suppose. trying to hold out as long as possible. Its bearable at moment, if need a op out for weeks and weeks isnt something that spins my wheels

Ok. Had shoulder issues myself over the years. They don’t repair themselves so if you have a rotator cuff tear get it fixed before it atrophies or the surgeon will struggle with it. Bitch of an injury but well worth the time and surgery to get right. My advice. Take it or leave it!

That's a good result alright, even though it was easy you still needed to get it back with the sore shoulder so well done.

I had rotator cuf injury, after messing about with the doc, scan, xrays a appointment was made with a specialist (9 months I had to wait) I told them to get fucked and cancelled after the partner of someone my wife works with got a opperation for the same thing within a couple of weeks and the prick was on the dole. I googled rotator cuff and found some stretching excersises to do.Quick easy to do very painfull at first but it worked. Pain free now but still do the odd stretch. Try it nothing to loose.

none of us are getting any younger...those big heman carries in our youth catch up with the body as it gets older.....man I wish someone had shown me the Alex Gale carry belt method as a young fella....and told me boning out a pig was ok...the head n skin only getting chucked away anyway...
    enjoy your venison

Man I hear you. Twenty years pig hunting and only started boning the buggars out on the hill in last four or so. Who needs to weigh a pig then throw half away????? Stuff that. Now we relax in the bush once the animal is down. I have a great wee system of skinning legs off so they come away clean. Carry string loops and hang them in a tree to cool, then it all goes in to the meat bag after a good break for one and all. Makes the hunt so relaxed and a nice comfy carry out. Once home the legs etc get hung up and there is no "ah crap I need to skin that pig/ deer etc" the next day. And no trying to fit heads and skins in the wheely bin
