    Hi 8pt Sika.
The nice 9lb rainbow yr son caught would be about 12 to 15 months old.Two yrs ago a 16 lb trout was caught in the canel with a tag attached. It was handed in to Fish n Game for data checking. They found the trout was only about 2 yrs old and release as a small trout 4'' long. They reckon the trout around the salmon farms are growing about 7 to 9 lbs a year living on salmon pellets(Xmas cake).

It takes between 12 and 18 months for a farmed salmon to go from 120g to 4-5kg.
