Since arriving back in New Zealand in later November I've done fairly well on the hunting front having around 8-10 deer already. I have stopped putting up reports but this one in particualr is quite special to me......
I was lucky enough to shoot a respectable Fallow Buck in mid February this year. My brother and I both agreed it looked hard enough to strip and I took the shot; putting the buck down where he stood.
Here is he (located just on dark).
My brother and the buck.
It was by far the fattest deer I have ever seen. It easily had two inches of fat all over his rump. The following day I then begin the process of stripping the velvet and cleaning up the skull a little more.
Here's a few photo's of my progress.
I then peroxided the skull and stained the antlers (didn't take many photo's of this process) and then chucked it up on the wall at my parents
First coat of potassium permaganate. I then sanded it to give the stain a multi layered effect... more noticeable on the palms afterwards.
Up on the wall next to my best Red and Sambar heads.
Sorry about all the photo's. t's taken around six weeks to get it to that stage but I'm wrapped with how it's turned out.
Now... to find a Sika
Cheers,
Pop Shot
