Nice story mate. On the up side you are in the right spot if you're seeing them. So next time go back to the same spots. They'll be there. As you say practice practice practice so you know when you take the shot it's in the bag. Check your zero before the hunt, not after.
Make sure you have a diary recording dates times temp etc of when and where you see game.
Good on ya. Freezer full of venison is close.

Damned good story. At this time of the year and in those conditions Japs and sun go together like pork chops and apple sauce.

Don't let getting a deer become to important though.

Bloody good story. And nice photos.

Kind of natural to be feeling that adrenaline pump when you see your deer, but take a deep breath.. aim, squeeze, and that dead deer will be right where you shot it, and it won't be too long before you have that flood of relief..!

(and get out of bed earlier.. time for snoozing and bacon and eggs at home.)

Great story, very well written. 18 months 30 deer seen is good, 1 deer shot is acceptable.

Your rifle shooting poorly aside, shots thought any rifle at animals is the way to go. Before I had even seen a deer I had fired around 1000 shots through a .22, one year I fired around 2500 shots through a rifle at animals.

I'd just stick to what you are doing, you are having fun, getting out and sharing experiences with your mates. As you proved, deer are where you find them. I'm not familiar with that block, would there be more deer a bit further away from the hut?

I like your writing style. Keep at it mate, sooner or later you'll start shooting them.

Mate, if your hunting skills come up to your writing skills there won't be a safe deer out there, chin up thinks will improve.
