Trip Report 4 - Family Wallaby Hunt

    • Quick trip report for those who enjoy yarns in the bullet point style.
    • I'll return to Trip Report 3, one of those epic late-night punishing hikes, but I'm pressed for time so I'll get this one up.
    • After my wife demonstrated how good she is at carrying pigs, my daughter and I planned out a wallaby hunt and roped my wife in for meat carrying duties.
    • Weather looked good.
    • Left after work, fish'n'chips for dinner in Geraldine. (Asked for crispy chips and they were amazing).
    • Hiked in the dark.
    • Daughter got a bee sting on the hike in. A few tears, but then back on the track. Parents impressed.
    • Set up camp, crashed out.
    • 'Slept in'. Caught sunrise and had coffee. Luxury living!
    • Spotted a few wallabies but opted for a relaxed morning, it was going to get hot.
    • Tidied camp and hit the track to get to higher elevation.
    • Great views all day. Very hot, no shade, some wind for respite.
    • Met a couple of other hunters, great guys, instant good connection and yarns. I think we'll do a trip together this year.
    • It got really hot, not pleasant, a few tears. Turned back. Everyone happy.
    • Smashed out a solid 12km hike. I was impressed with the girls!
    • Back to camp for dinner.
    • Wallabies popping out, bailed on dinner.
    • Couple of other hunters showed up. Said gidday.
    • Daughter set up on wallabies. Dialed in. Boom. 130m. Nice.
    • I got one for myself.
    • Then one of the other hunters got one with his 270.
    • We all met up and the other hunter with his dog Sky helped us track them down.
    • Cool mini mission and more good yarns.
    • Parted ways.
    • Had dinner - dehy veni from the last trip: https://www.nzhuntingandshooting.co....ission-112342/
    • Butchered wallaby - deer technique works good on them too. Tucked meat by a creek to stay cool overnight.
    • Hiked out in the morning.
    • Daughter carried her wallaby. Proud dad moment.
    • Chilled day, swimming at lake, ice creams etc.
    • Wallaby nachos for dinner with home grown veges. Surprisingly good, really good in fact.
    • Have to cherish weekends like that.
    • More reports to come
