Yes. There were 4 of them. Tags and ear marks. The DOC/Stn boundary is pretty tatty.

I remember Toby's old thread about when is a cow a feral beast. Made me think about them.

Very cool trip. It’s great when everything comes together. A day off mid week, no one in the carpark, mint weather, a few animals out and then you see two deer 90 minutes from the truck.

There’s nothing like a day in the bush to refresh the soul. I needed that too!

Well Done lad,s , I too went out but took the more gentlemanly approach of a 1pm start , took the new neighbour out to some public land but had permission from the farmer to jump the fence which we did but nar stock had eaten all the tucker in all 3 paddocks didn't see a thing , still good to get out though first walk id been on in months , did notice a bit of a green tinge on a couple of sunny faces so keep your eyes open its surprising where the grass starts growing first.

Nice report Tahr and an apt title. The early bird often does catch the worm, not necessarily an early kill, perhaps success later in the day from being able to maximise the use of available daylight hours to cover ground.

Sounds like you walked 90 minutes to far for most of the day get off that public land and back to ya private block with ist wheelchair access

Onya boys and girls. A solid day and aptly rewarded. Great read too. Always helps shooting deer if you get out there and have a go ay. If I am pulling days on the hill like that in my retirement I will be happy. I agree with Brian too. There are so many deer about these days compared to twenty years ago. It is starting to get alarming and the bush is showing the signs of pressure in places.

The old buggers at it again this evening (although Brian says that Fallow don't count) One was for the cocky.
