Winter Goat Hunt - Sunday 22nd June

A friend popped in from Palmy and another was keen so sussed out a plan and went for a crack on the goats..

Reached car park about just after 7am. Got off and started towards the track only to see 3 billies playing on the slip close by. In the many trips to the same spot I had never seen the goats so close to the car park before.

Walked to the edge of the slip but couldnt find any gun rest to shoot from. The billies saw me and started making towards the cover so I took a free hand shot. "Bang" - clean miss.

Bit frastrated started up the usual track. After about 2ks up spooked a mob of 4 on the track only to see the arses take cover in the bushes close. Pretty unlucky day I guessed.

My 2 mates were kinda worn out from the walk so far so they chose to return rather than walk any further. So we made back towards car park slowly..

Almost back to the car, this time we were opposite the face of where I had missed the billy that morning, I saw a bank of gravel that I could have used to take that shot earlier. It was about 200m from where those billies were. I guess that would have been better than the shot taken from less than 50m from the edge.

So just to get over it, I placed my rifle on the bank and tried to see through the scope to see how the shot would have looked. I zoomed in and guess what, I saw the end of the tail wiggling through some light cover. I moved a little towards the right and now could clearly see the nanny.

My mates though I was just fooling them when I chambered the bolt.. lol.. I really had a laugh when I saw the look on their face after the shot ripped. Down came the nanny from the slip..

Gutted and meat taken. Easy carry to the car. Done well done from where it started bad.

Nice effort. Take your mates for a walk to build up a sweat, knock one over close to the car park, easy carry

@Gibo a few pictures were snapped in the night but couldnt see any animals on the pic. I guessed this was due to the interval settings on the trail cam. So brought it home to test. Have set the interval to 5sec now and seems to work OK.

Will be heading back to fix it may be after this coming weekend. Have got in a few salt blocks to place around the cam area to attract more animals. Let see how it will go..
