Nice project you have there. Lots of work ahead. I have a long running Hilux rebuild/project. So far I've turned this:



Into this:




It's in the shop for fabrication, welding, paint and cert before coming home for reassembly.

There's lots of Aussies on ih8mud who have done it all before to draw knowledge from.

Spent the morning at the shop the other day, mostly just sorting through parts. Had the auto sparky drop round and we got the loom all laid out hopefully get the loom wrapped and fitted later next week and make a start on all the under dash stuff. Sorry no pics but really wasn't much to show.

I was going to suggest Kent distributors in Christchurch for parts of you need any but they don't seem to have much in the way of 60 Land cruiser stuff but they might be able to help you out if you need anything. Lots for Hilux. It was far cheaper to get a new set of guards, bonnet and grill than to have the old dinged up stuff reconditioned.

I would love a new twin headlight center grill to go with my new headlight surrounds but have been unable to find any that aren't prohibitively expensive.
My grill is fine but the chrome is faded and peeling but otherwise it is undamaged, just looks ugly next to the new headlight surrounds. I could get it re coated with chrome powdercoat and that would still be much cheaper than any of the aftermarket parts I've been able to find overseas.

Spent another 3 hours on the cruiser today, most of the loom is back in, the heater and aircon fans, ducting and blower motor and such is now in situ back under the dash where it belongs. Hopefully either on Sunday or Monday I'll get back over and get the rest of the dash, cluster air on controls etc back in.
My new aftermarket headers arrived from oz yesterday so today I presoaked all the manifold studs with penetrating oil in the hope of getting the headers fitted next week too whilst the sparky works on getting all the engine bay stuff connected and tested.
Pics don't look like much but we have actually accomplished quite a bit today. As this used to be a diesel there's a few things that need to be changed about on the engine bay loom but the sparky is all over it and has a special passion for 60 series trucks which has already proven very useful.

Looks like you have a lot of work ahead of you@dannyb . This was the boss's pride and joy. When he passed away the family decided to do it up. Just got it back this week.Has had a repaint, rust removed and new rims/tyres. Still handles like a boat but it's a cool old truck.

Not as much as you might think, once the loom is back in and engine bay stuff is tested and plugged in, most of the work will be in painting the front end. Famous last words right

I was at the Toyota Museum in Nagoya Japan yesterday and this was on display. I didn’t realize the Landcruiser was launched back in the 1950’s.

They came down this way as part of the equipment package to build the snowy mountain hydro scheme in the early 50s.

I wonder if there is any of the earlier ones left in NZ? Don't see them much earlier than 1970. I have a 71 ute as well
