Be fine .certainly can get places the jet boat couldn't.

You should be on the plane by 40 ish kmh.
It really depends on your hull shape how it handles,my last one was like a blade in the water and would turn tighter than you could hang onto it but most others i had ridden were very slidey more like a traditional jet boat.
Had to really throw your weight forward and full lock full power to get the Arse to slide and "Hamilton turn" it which would stop it in a meter or two but the rider usually bounced across the water 20 odd meters further
Wear a buoyancy aid and helmet, goggles.
I had a balls up in our little local river one winter just wearing shorts and a shirt.
Comin downstream at 70-75 mph I changed my line by a foot where a small braid flowed into a hole against the bank and clipped the bottom which popped the hull out of the water mid turn and sent me rolling across the water threw a shit load of willow that had been fallen into the river to protect the bank.
Pure dum luck i didn't get impaled but now I was submerged in ice cold water.
Only had to swim 4-5m to the bank but with the wind knocked out of me and the freezing water seizing up my muscles it was a struggle.

It takes 43 muscle's to frown and 17 to smile, but only 3 for proper trigger pull.

Another one I had was racing around bouys which was working up some good chop, goin threw a turn my buoyancy aid caught the kill lanyard and killed the motor which ment no steering of course and I was high and dry on the beach.

I used to kayak down the Tongariro. Pissed the fly fishers off no end haha !!!
As to the original question - doing 80k's up the river. That's motoring! Might be time to have a parachute fitted for emergency braking!
If it's outdoors, it's all good!
Why, what was the problem with using jet ski?
There was a bloke from our area who used a jet boat on that lake...got snapped shooting deer near a school group camping...DoC rangers nearby had to hit the deck...confiscated boat, wagon and rifle [SLR with two mags taped together]...some time later I see his boat and wagon in his driveway and more stag heads being added all the time to the fence alongside the house, so I guess he got his rifle back as well.
Which is worse, ignorance or apathy...I don't know and don't care.
