Anyone been up the Ahuriri lately?

Just wondering what the road is like at the moment after the rainy spring/summer. Taken the Legacy all the way up in previous years but it always changes!

Gave it a shot... stopped maybe 1km short of the road end but had to be pretty mean to the poor wagon to get that far!

The main big slip was pretty rough, got even rougher with the rain on the way out. Same with a few of the fords. Scrape crunch clonk... now I have to reattach a loose side skirt.

    GT?

Found mine wasn't too good in the deep ruts, thankfully gsp follower was there to haul me out.

Yep GTB, not really made for the rough stuff but at least it has plenty of grunt up hills!

Was up there climbing hills so not really looking for animals - 3 nice looking reds ran across the road in front of me on the way in, and a truckload of hares running around the flats. Small amount of sign up Canyon Creek but not a lot. Went most of the way up Mt Heim but flagged it about 150m from the top with dodgy avalanche hazard.

It surprises people at times how far you can get a car if you put your wheels in the right place and don't mind clonking a few rocks underneath, its usually the approach and departure angles through fords that end up stopping me. Nearly sold it for a proper 4wd last year but after a few roadtrips driving mates 4wds I just couldn't bring myself to do it, I like corners too much!
