    Cheap 4x4 Recovery kit??

    Does any one know of a place to get cheap recovery kit that is light and big enough for a jimny stuck in mud? Im looking to build a emergency kit for our jimny for the just in case...

    A set of chains for front and back will get you out of most mud holes and a small Tirfor hand winch for when your really in the shit. I have chains fitted to the farm SJ413 rear, all the time over winter. With a small Tirfor type winch with wire rope and strops under the seat.The rope is the same size as a boat winch has and about 15m long with a hook at one end.

    Wire strainers and a longer length of chain. Put a proper snog hook on the chain tho.

    You should also carry a proper recovery strap with dated shackles. That way another vehicle can snatch tow you out.

    Don't use wire or chain for snatch recoveries.

    I was thinking some tubular webbing, but wanted to make sure it was strong enough before i trusted it. When i used to clim we used stuff rated for 2.2 kn but whether it would be up to the task of moving a vehicle is the question. Do any of you guys know a good dealer for reasonable prices for strops etc?

    Keep your re overt gear together in a bag away from sunlight and dirt.

    Assorted webbing, rope that's fit for a washing line or whatever is not worth the risk: remember if you're truly stuck you're not pulling just two tonnes plus combined vehicle weights. You're pulling the sucky mud too. Flying snapped (even light) ropes are lethal. No ifs or buts. I've seen it.

    Yes we're spending money and you're on a budget like many of us. Start slow. Accumulate the right stuff. Always ask is it safe.

    Good gear is an investment that will last years longer than your present vehicle.

    Recovery. I hate my touch screen. It has nothing to do with sticky fingers after my date slice either....

    We pulled our mates wagon just like yours which was teetering on a edge of a 40m straight gorge off with our 4 wheelers but it slid and just about pulled us all over.This was about 4 months ago and I hate driving past it.Best trick I heard was to use 12mm rope as snow chains. When used just cut them off.

    I would have to agree with you. Im not out hunting for holes to put my new truck in and am rather more inclined to be prepared for the worst case scenario while were out exploring. Ill have to buy bit by bit i think, much like reloading began. A part a month lol

    im no expert but all ive got is a decent length of chain with snig hooks a winch extension strop a couple of rated bow shackles a fold up spade an axe and a high lift jack the high lift jack can be used as a hand winch its slow but it works
