Can't chip that old, the chips these guys are talking about are for common rail stuff
But pump mods and big turbo would suit the 80 series just nicely

There is a couple of chip places that off full refunds if your unhappy.
The chips are normally plug and play so easy to pull out for services.
Konus binoculars " The power to imagine"
I put an ecu chip on my brand new 2012 hilux and from just towing boat to the beach was makng the clutch slip down till 3rd gear at 15000kms so I took it off . Now every now and then when it's raining it will slip when first engageing 4th at 60000kms made the engine noisier fuel usage was about the same brought one for the father in laws merc van and made it break down after 30000kms so he threw it in the bin I wouldn't buy another
i wasn't blaming the chip i was more indicating the power increase it gave but also giving an example of an experience having owned a power chip as that is what a forum is for not a keyboard warrior thats never owned a vehicle new enough to have one but seems to have all the answers to everything . que crying session
Thats fine but you could have worded it differently it sounded like you were blaming the chip for your shitty clutch.
Oh and no need to have a crying session toyota were very good about upgrading the clutch in the work truck that was fucked around 30,000k and that wasnt even chipped so they should fix yours like all the rest.

So stub has a piss weak clutch and kiwi Greg has a decent one or just different driving styles
Lol, most plug and play chips just work as an interceptor to feed to real ecu slightly false info to think it needs to run slightly higher injector duty to increase fueling. Everything is software based these days and they don't usually replace a "chip" like in the past, so any that modify your ecu you're just paying for an altered fuel map, basically a 5 minute download, but you're paying for the software development.
Most diesels from factory have air reserves from highly efficient turbos, programmed into the maps to allow for varied fuels, maintenance and to prevent smoking at any acceleration, chip just uses up that 10-15% reserve

Only the cheap versions do that and it farks the engines real quick. We see it all the time at work.
The proper expensive chips do a lot more than upset the factory settings. That is why they cost a lot more, as they have had the correct programming put in place. These chips are reliable and have decent backup service as well. You get what you pay for. Buying a upgrade chip off someone who is not a specialist is only asking for trouble.
