    Yeah any engine with O2 sensors while running in closed loop will realise that you're adding more fuel and will knock back the fuel trims up to 20% to bring it back to factory targets.

    Reflash is the best way for sure

    The decent plug in ECU's are not a reflash or a shitty fueling remap. They also do not revert back to factory settings.
    They have done the proper research into what needs to be altered to get the best gains.
    If you are interested in a good system, my best recommendation is go to a specialist and talk to them.

    DPS offer this. Had it done to my Ranger and I'd -never- go back to the std map. Uses slightly less gas but the extra torque is astounding.

    Sounds like that will be more of a software upgrade. Most of the manufacturers can update the ECU's to the latest specifications.
    Unfortunately Toyota aren't 1 of them. They're still behind the times. Their updates are only patches or field fixes.

    I assume all aftermarket chips will void the warranty

    Only if you leave it in, Once removed there is no trace of them ever being there
