Diesel utes/suvs next under the ban hammer?

A bit on seven sharp tonight and things dont look good for the future of the outdoors lovers favorite vehicles.

Obviously all those old diesels rolling coal are bad for cancer rates etc and I understand that but I thought a modern diesel was "cleaner" and more "not causing imaginary climate change" than modern petrol engines?

A year or two back I had to alter the exhaust on a diesel mercedes camper with over 100tho on the clock to clear the towbar. I was amazed the inside of the exhaust was totally clean....actually totally clean and rusting from the inside out like a petrol does.

7 sharp is a comedy show not news. then again so is tv1 tv2 news at night
as for breakfast "news: tv it might as well be "the wiggles" though duncan garner does have a likeness to thomas the tank engine

where the hell did actual news shows go, people like phil sherry clearly reading news stories without trying to play emotion and making jokes

Do they want to ban them because of cancer risks yet we don't ban cigarettes the sun a lot of chemicals the gap between people being able to see a doctor or not is slowly getting wider people not living in proper houses is becoming the new norm and we are worried about a diesel vehicle why don't we just ban breathing that will solve most problems

If they ban diesel's, I'll rip out my efficient little diesel and put a dirty big V8 Petrol in it instead. It might cost me a bit but be worth it just to piss off the greenie's.

Nope, she knows how to argue, call me an old fart and denier, to worry about the future of my grand kids and really frets about the future!!
So how are the 12-13 years going to cope when its instilled into them at school?
I stayed in a multi storey build in Aussie with her, she saved the booze bottles for the recycle bin out the back. I said Id take them down, but found a steel rubbish chute on our floor and had much joy letting go one by one and listening to the neat noise they made screaming down 8 storeys before the crash at the bottom!
I got my ears cleaned free of charge!!

I just cant see it happening in nz. In city centres maybe but the coutntry relies on diesel for transporting goods all round the country when rail doesnt met demands (whole big debate there)

I argee the older diesels are pretty horrific, have sat behind a few old 4wd chugging up a steep incline leaving smoke signals in their wake. New modern common rails i dont see the issue with, isnt this why car manufacturers spend millions of emissions research?

VW with their "Dieselgate" for example?
I see the company is still paying huge fines/compensation the latest being in Canada.

If they do they won't ban them outright. They will just make it too expensive to own one through higher fuel costs, road user charges etc. That seems to be the common angle to force compliance. Then when you give up and by a petrol or god forbid an electric car it was your dicision and the government doesn't look as bad. ( same as the firearm legislation with 5yr licences)
