    ELECTRIC UTV, ANY GOOD?

    Hi all, my Polaris has shit itself. Shocker I know :-0 does any body here have an electric utv side by side for their farm/ hunting? Apart from the tuatara which I can’t afford. More like $20k. Iv googled. There are a few but yeah if theyr shit then no point. I’m guessing pretty new tech but if someone’s had good and bad experience I’d like to know. Mainly I want quiet. Sick of the noise. I dont drive very far. 2k around the prop each time. But will tow a mower/sprayer trailer/mini grader. Cheers

    I thought...why doesn't he look at the Polaris Electric UTV? Then I looked it up: 51K plus costs!!!

    Looks like all options are stupid money.

    I have to agree: all the side x sides make a stupid amount of racket for what they are. You'd think they could shut them up a bit. Its 2023 FFS!

    We just wear earmuffs now on our machines. Cheaper and quieter

    Ha yeah crazy costs considering it’s a quad bike with a roof :-0 yeah the noise is mad. Made a better muffler people come on!

    Some more so than others, the problem isn't so much the machine as our tendency to run front and rear windows and a roof for the sound to bounce around in.
    The can am is the quietest of the lot, and with roof and windows off you can hardly hear the motor.
    But I have to agree some of them have such a drone it would do your head in.

    That noise thing is why I like the little Suzuki and Isuzu 'farmworker' type trucks so much. Much quiter nicer and a better heater plus standard automotive type bits fit...

    A lot of outfits are thinking of going to electric vehicles as replacements for yard trucks etc, but it's a bit of a hard question with costs. By the time you sort charging infrastructure and the mandatory H&S BS that you need to do to cover your arse now, you can outright buy 3 or 4 petrol vehicles for the cost of the first electric.

    Yeah some places we go I don't want to be in a suzuki but they are certainly gaining popularity.
    The electric utv would be awesome but as XR500 pointed out you could get 2 fully kitted out brand new Can ams for that price.

    I dunno how capable your UTV's are but I would be much happier in the zuk than the Kubota versions we were using. They are lighter and better than full size Utes but nowhere near as capable as a four wheeler or the little Suzuki I used.

    One of the issues with the Kubota was it was surprisingly heavy for it's tyre size and physical size - and I suspect that's why it sank every time it got near mud. That would be my concern with the electrics as well, weight penalty from the batteries.

    The big issue I see re quad vs SxS vs Zuk is taking them out of their operating profile.

    Used sensibly a Zuk would be my preference. Quieter, warmer, drier. And a bigger payload. And cheaper maintenance by far.

    If the ability to bail out is a consideration...maybe the wrong vehicle is being used. Quad/2 wheeler/shanks pony would be better

    No not the ability to bail out, the ability to roll and get home is more important to me you can't roll a suzuki down a hill and walk away.
    The maintenance I'd question having used both the can am wins buy far.

    The zuk we had was great, aftermarket bits from anywhere as most of it was similar to the equivalent Suzuki Alto and 4wd models. By far that is cheaper than any of the dealers who supply bits for ATV's... As far as rollover, I don't think its a very fair assessment as the two sxs's I've seen after rollovers were complete write offs, the farmworkers the same. The 4wheelers are all good to go with a bit of a tickle up. My 4wheeler is a good example, twisted and blistered from a prang and still going strong - thanks to whoever sold that to me from here as I cannot recall and my PM's all got deleted!!!

    That's a fair assessment but I've rolled multiple sxs to no affect, It would have to be hell of a send to right one off.
    I can't say the same for the suzuki trucks, while they get home they are very bent compared to the sxs
