Plan your trip better, shop before you go and wash up when you get home.
You are looking at installing a lock box in your vehicle to prevent theft, scumbags will just take the vehicle.

Oh but the police have lock boxes in the cop cars... Yes we are police, you are not, I said bend over!

Oh and don't forget the media field day.

Interestingly the new polis forms for prohibited firearms endorsement for pest control amongst other "interesting" stuff asks for details of security arrangements of these "deadly firearms" in storage, transit, and most interestingly during use. Using their expertiese as a guide not leaving it behind in the toilet would be a good start.
But the implication is that lock boxes may be an accepted solution.
