@Hidey31, are your tyres 116T or 120/117S load rating?

I just found this thread. I've been on falken wildpeak at3s for a few years. Done 67000 km them and still have 4mm of tread on 3 of them however one ended up with a flat spot and is buggered. So I've pulled them off and temporarily on bridgestones. I highly rate the falkens, have had them on snow, ice, mud, clay and never had any issues at all.

Asked for a quote for the falkens again and it came back at $425 per tyre fitted for 265x65x17s. Anyone purchased them in the central north island recently?

Recommend getting 5x of whatever tyre you pick so 1) you can rotate and get 20% longer life from the set (although this is really perceived rather than real) and 2) when one tyre is written off, you have a spare with roughly similar wear to sub in for the remainder of the life of the remaining 4.

Keep an eye on Marketplace. I just picked up 4 new Dueller 265/65/17 a bloke took off a new ute. Was asking $1200, I gave him $850.

@Nick.m I have ordered a set today in Timaru, $385 fitted balanced, gst and tyre disposal fee incl. Getting them fitted on Friday.
Another local shop quoted $525 for the same tyre, I even double checked he wasn't quoting the LT model which has a higher load rating. I'm getting 265/65/17 116T Wild peak AT3W.
Make sure that the shop doesn't order in the AT3WA if you want grip. They are slightly more highway oriented by the look of them.

I like the idea of buying 5 but I'm just managing to afford 4 atm.

$385 is a pretty sharp price - I was quoted just over $1900 for a set of 4 just recently. They are being replaced by AT4W at the moment I believe so maybe some good deals to use up remaining stock?

I've had two sets of 265/75/r16 maxxis razr mts on my dmax, first set I replaced for a south island trip at 50000kms with 4mm tread left, current set sitting at 6mm tread left with 45000kms on them. Ute sits at 3300kgs daily.
Id imagine the ATs would get better mileage

$380 PT from Kats Rolleston was the best on offer. Quite interesting the variance in price across the same tyre at different outfits!

Got good year wranglers on at the moment. Was told I'd get an easy 80 thou out of them I've done just over 40 with a lot of towing, whindy roads and gravel. I should scratch 70 thousand with a bit of luck.

I'm doing an alignment n rotation every 10 thou for 120ish bucks a visit 7x120=840. I wonder if I'm better off doing a fraction of the alignments getting slightly less out of my tires and saving the cash for the next set

I would agree with your maths. I would not worry about alignment unless you hit something hard, and put most of that $840 towards the replacement set.

Anyone can do a wheel rotation at 10 thou. Just use plenty of chocks around the wheels remaining on the ground, or if the spare is one of the set, even easier.

I was asked if I wanted an alignment done when the new tyres were fitted but as the old set were very evenly worn and the ute is driving straight I told them not to.
