I'd say flush the cooling system and sort out the non-spinning fans. Maybe do the thermost. Can get a low k's motor for under $500.

+ like 50 for the Escudo. I drive a 1600 96 Vitara 5 door and love it. 12k per litre most of the time and not much more with the trailer. Doesnt do fast well, but with the aerodynamics of a polystyrene brick it clearly was not built for speed. While I cannot speak for the reliability of the 2.06 my brother also had a 2.0 4cyl and it run pretty well but fuel usage was higher. He replaced it with a new Jimney this year and has always had a 413 as a back up vehicle. He reckons the newer Jimneys are better to drive than the older Vitaras, and smaller / easier to drive.

As for the Rav 4, my understanding is there is two main variants, L and J (Rav4L and Rav4J) From what I understand one is permanent 2wd (Front) and is a proper merivale tractor and not meant fr off road. Advantage is 2wd means less transmission resistance (one diff, no transfer and no second diff) making them more economical. The other is permanent 4wd

Either way, go Suzuki...Straight panels are easier to repair, and they go anywhere....

Hopefully the impeller is fine as the water pump was replaced along with the timing belt about 8000km ago. My pick will be the temp switch which can be bridged with some wire in the meantime.

    Of course I said yes!

I might be tempted to make an ugly modification. Think I'll drop in a new radiator after flushing the entire cooling system a couple of times as they're only a couple of hundred fro a good one.

I would be wary of cutting those supports and any implications it may have on
    A Airbag deployment
B getting a warrant of fitness.

Not saying dont do it, just do your homework first.

Does it have airbags? (Haven't taken the Mrs for a spin yet)

Would probably be the strongest part of the area done how I would do it.
