Thread: Hilux making a very odd noise

What year?

Jap import, '92. Don't know about the head gasket, no reason I can think of for it to be buggered, I haven't cooked it or anything. Weird how it just stopped.

I have a Colorado and before that a rodeo, oil changes on the rodeo made it a diff ute, I had injector probs on the Colorado at 75k and they modified the injectors it blew black on start up and sounded like a chaff cutter till in warmed up. All good now.so low oil probably

Not 100% sure about the hiluxs but the surfs dual mass flywheels fall to bits and make a intermittent noise
See if you can have a look in the bell housing for hard black plastic looking bits

The new nissan navaras have the same problem with their dual mass flywheels

What engine? 2L, 3L, 1KZ (Surf)

2L & 3L don't have duel mass flywheel.

Crack off each injector in turn to isolate a problem cylinder / bearing problem. Just make sure to use a flare nut / hydraulic spanner not an open end 17mm!

I started it up again before, got it warm, revved it etc. No black smoke, odd noises etc. Everything seems normal. Perhaps an injector was blocked or packed a sad temporarily? I really don't have the tools, skill or know how to go looking for issues, so if it does it again it'll be off to the mechanic.

iv done a dual mass flywheels on 2 jap import 3L in the last couple of months , nz new ones dont have them tho

should be able to feel the bell housing and feel roughness through the alloy
try the injector trick,mite be an injector but bearings noise dont go away with a diesel, can only move so far before it kisses the head

Next time (if there is a next time) it occurs, might pay to video and upload to PooTube so that we can see / listen?

if its a 2.8 they get alittle noisyer when they get low on oil
just keep an eye on it

and when changing the oil filter run the motor then check it again
and the again a week later, then it should be sweet for a little while

what motor is it? 1kz, 1kd, 3l,5l?
