Had a VX 100 series for a couple of years not petrol was a great machine great to drive long distance and boy can they tow my mates will tow his 3000kg boat and pass cars up hill. Used to use 10 or 11L per 100km 4200cc will run for ever and so nice to drive wish I still had mine
The diesel cycle is more efficient (greater compression ratio) and so you tend to use less fuel than you would with a petrol. On top of this the fuel price is lower, though the ratio of prices has changed over the last 20 years when diesel was just under half the price of petrol where now it is about three quarters the price. I managed 9.5l/100km with the Bighorn the other weekend on a trip to Dunedin and back which isn't too bad. The big Mercedes Sprinter surprised me with 8.8l/100km. Personally I prefer the way a diesel drives with its low end torque.
There are only three types of people in this world. Those that can count, and those that can't!
There is also more potential energy in a liter of diesel than petrol.
Apples with apple's the diesel will always use less.
Weather it works out cheaper or not is up for debate

I get 12l/100km from the 1KZTE 3l turbo diesel surf consistently, mudtyres etc, 550 k's to a tank
The real answer to which fuel to use is what goes in the fuel tank on the farm?
Yup, that will change tho...........mark my words
