Have a Merc. Sprinter, still the basic van body with internal camper conversion (NZ), ex-rental now called Kea Nomad. No problems at all, excellent layout (if you're not too big), mechanically sweet & reliable. Not bad value for $$. PM me if you want more info.
LDV parts arent the best, their dealer support is shocking.
If you want to have a good relationship with a panel beater that loves working with rust. Go for it mate
Thanks for all the replies. Doesn't sound promising!
5 star hotel for 2- weeks every year in a beautiful location will be WAY cheaper and WAY nicer. Get her a massage and she will forget all about the silly idea.
We bought a 6 berth caravan in 2019 and I had friends tell me I could have had some awesome holidays staying in hotels for the price. Anyway after 5 years and some amazing camping holidays later I sold it for $3k less than I paid for it and could have held out for more. Funny thing is those same detractors now have a caravan too. Whatever you decide consider it an investment in experiences and memories.
The kids grew out of the small family caravan bunks and prefer sleeping in their own tents now. So I got a toy hauler that can take bikes, motorbikes, quad bike, kayaks or whatever on holiday and is also a spare bedroom at home.
Theres a lot of maintenance vs actual use it will get. Thats what stops me buying one and I can do the maintenance my self....
Our school mini-bus is LDV and I drive it regularly. V80 model? Not sure.
Done several long trips to Auckland and back, Rotorua, Taupo, New Plymouth.
There are no words that can possibly express how much I hate that vehicle. The automatic gearbox has got to be the most retarded piece of engineering I’ve ever experienced. The only way I can drive it without losing my temper is manually using the +/- shifter.
It’s falling apart in front of our eyes. The plastic trim panels, most of them have come off and been chucked out.
Seriously. Don’t.
Ever.
Just...say...the...word
forget the camper, get a babysitter. go to vegas !
