And luckily if you couldn't pull it out you could have just mulched it there
[QUOTE=Twodiffs;1633933]My son & I driving up the river to make sure wifeys uncle got out ok on his quad...of course he did, my son was driving but he claims I was. Which I wasn't...bit tricky to see the soft bits in the middle of the night. Thankfully this machine was close by.

Some very lucky people there. A sideswipe involving two lots of 50 odd tonne goes pearshaped pretty fricken quickly..
Jebus that is some serious shit. Pure luck an innocent person wasn't killed. I assume unlike ordinary trailers they don't have any safety chains on the trailer hitch ( I realise it could be 30ish tons but there must be chains with breaking strains above that you could use ? ).
If negligence is involved they need to be delt to severely.
Probably a failed king pin or towing eye, the rest rolls through after that...
I thought he was clipped by the other logging truck
Yes, that's what the video shows. I suspect the tow hitch failed AFTER the sideswipe overloaded it. The sideswipe also broke the tie down chains, hence the load goes spewing everywhere.
Id open the video large, the out of control trailer swipes the rear trailer of the Rotorua bound truck after the hitch has let go.
Look at the truck positions, Both are running the fog line as most do through those corners.
The Roto bound truck a second later and he would have got it through the cab, a second faster and the dash cam car would have got the full brunt

Thanks, just did that and yes, its detached just before it sideswipes the other rig. Like you say, half a second either way and fatalities handed out all round.

Holy crap, you couldn't predict that happening could you - something dropping in precisely the right place and hitting for long enough to active the electronic release. What are the chances of it happening for one, and the chances of after it happening the accident not resulting in fatal crash(es)? Wow, the luck underpinning all of that was fully used up.
