    mercury tote tank fuel couplings

I see thread on props, prompt me to jot down what we just struck...
our wee 15hp 2 stroke goes great till some numbnuts nicked the O ring in the fuel coupling...no worries will go buy a new one as the fuel bulb rather worn n cracked too..
off to Mr Boats we go...we bought boat and motor off them 20 years ago...get motor serviced there, bought life jackets there, always been great to deal with.
take in old fuel line...none on shelf..get staff to help.... first young lass, not a clue. nice lady slightly older comes to rescue..looks at fittings on shelf..nope mercury fitting are not interchangable with the suzuki/johnstone/honda ones...goes to manual of mercury bits.. they sell individual coupling...great order us one... there is ONE IN THE COUNTRY.... cant buy complete fuel line set up,cant buy totetank line and couplings either (so how the hell do they have them for new outboards?)
I look at the two new 15s sitting on showroom floor..same fuel conection..so if bought new motor, with tote tank you COULD NOT buy another spare tank with fittings...nope cant do it without ordering it in. no they wouldnt sell me the ones from/for new shop stock...
purchased new line with bubble ready to set it up when new fitting arrives.
I have another Oring of correct diametre but its slightly too fat it self... wont connect without great deal of force...
    frustrating to say the least.

no complaints re the staff and what they can do...just seems like a shitty arrangement from mercury itself.

All about control. I wanted a part for muffler on my Suzuki DRZ250. ‘No, but we can order a complete muffler from Japan. Cost will be $1400+’.

I think the late model mercs are the same as yamaha I have a 115 omc and a 40 yamaha so I run all tanks with yamaha fittings and what ever at engine end of the hose as that stays on motor . I only run genuine yamaha hose and bulbs as they dont harden also yamaha gen hose fittings are engine or tank specific , stamped on release lever as I think they have non returns in them .

I would be talking to good parts (https://nzbikeparts.com/) on that one....I have dealt with him a few times for an 85 virago....

Be a high likelihood that the oring is a metric and that oring you tried is imperial hence the thicker section which is too tight. Try a metric oring that fits for outside diameter and it should be the ducks nuts.

Re the lack of stock - expect more of this, I've struck it before with single-distributor stuff when there is an unexpected run on stock or a hold up in supply shipments for whatever reason.
