Some grinders would look cool , bit more weight, I would be a tad reluctant to part with my mean old boar tusks

Can send you this if you like

you could pull the grinders and join them somehow, or keep it whole for the Evel Knievel look

Pete, counted the sprocket teeth last night. Currently it is 13/53, no idea if this is standard or not...

Making some progress with the mudslug

    • Had the forks out to replace the boots today
    • Tank off to replace the fuel line, and check out the wiring harness
    • New grips
    • Replaced spark plug and air filter
    • Lubed the chain and adjusted tension
    • Got the headlight working, whoohoo

So pretty much ready to go at this stage.

    Still to do:
    • Kill switch
    • Want to put a small green led into the headlight housing for neutral light
    • Fuel tap needs to be replaced, and maybe carb rebuilt
    • Discovered the strainer is missing in the sediment bowl, so will order a replacement

The bloody four-legged apprentice stole the front axle nut and spacer, had me searching all over the workshop ! Eventually found them in the back yard near his usual stash...

Also managed to get the throttle re-assembled in full open position. Remember that I do not currently have a kill switch... Er, so when I started the bike while it was up on stands, it suddenly started revving its tits off, with no simple way to kill it - fun times, all good now

Fun and games with the slug today. Ended up spending the day working on the bike because the front base on my Omark developed a wobble, so no shooting in Hawke's Bay Champs for me this year...

Replaced the front brake cable, and had the wheel off to check the brake shoes.
    Installed the replacement battery.
Installed the after-market kill switch, and after a bit of trial and error found the correct wires to connect it to. Yeeeeha, no more stalling the bike to kill it !
Removed the leads and bulbs for the speedo light and turn indicator light (these must have been stuffed into the headlight after the speedo was removed)
When I started testing the neutral indicator wire, I discovered the clutch is sticking...

So - oil drained (again), clutch cover off (farking philips bolts on the cover, had to use the impact driver on all of em). The clutch springs on the TF are held in by a cross pin, not bolted in like most other bikes.

Going to have to wait till Tue to get Allen head replacements for all the clutch and magneto cover bolts.

Ah well, at least I am getting to see most of the internals of the bike this way

A bit of clutch drag is pretty normal on older bikes, have a look at the fingers of the basket. The fiber plates tend to hammer into the basket making slight notches, this is enough to make them drag. File them off flat and check cable adjustment on reassembly.

Tx VC, will check that out once I pull the clutch apart. Planning on giving the plain plates a once over on 1000 grit sheet.

Sticking should be cheaper to fix than slipping

If its not slipping I wouldn't touch the plates,if it is slipping and the fiber plates are worn the cheapest easiest fix is often to add one extra steel plate.
Also running ATF in the gearbox can help, there are two main types of ATF and I forget the designation but its the one that when you put a drop on your fingers and squeeze together and rub it feels "grippy"
