Retained value is probably the biggest difference

Yes but 4 years 100k later it has probably lost the photons purchase price in depreciation!

Any love for the newer Ssangyong 4x4's? I drove one the other weekend and it was pretty nice. I've asked around and people just say they're ugly but don't really know what they're like mechanically.

Any comments on the build quality of the Foton's?

Yeah and the foton will be close to zero value so they are much the same I guess. No one sells their ute for the depreciated value anyway so that's irrelevant

Try and find one 2nd hand almost new price Three year 100,000 K warranty
I figured Subaru, Hyundai, KIA all now very main stream but certainly weren't when they were released.
All Utes apart from the VW Amorok are assembled in Thailand aren't they.
Foton & Cummins have a 50/50 partnership factory builds 400,000 motors per year.

yes, from what I have been hearing the cummins engined utes are giving no problems, the depreciation on a toyota over say 200.000 ks you would be at the same cost as a chinese one and you could afford to pay $10.000 in extra repairs, have not heard yet of ingection problems the cummins engine?

Ssangyongs were developed with Mercedes prior to a series of takeovers.
I have an older Actyon Sports 4x4 utes, not the current model.
The 2.0L motor is a licensed derivative from a Mercedes diesel.
Not a lot of km - 140,000 in nearly 9 years.

It is reliable when regularly serviced. I've had no problems with it.

What you save is the extra $$$$ that you'd pay Nissan, Toyota, Holden for an equivalent model.

Looks are in the eye of the beholder, don't hear of any being stolen unlike other brands.

I have one with only 21000Ks on the clock and have had many major issues. The gearbox needed to be replaced, the air con failed, the key fell apart, the licence plate light fell off (twice). But the worst problem was when I was in 3rd gear slowing down to go around a 35KPH corner. I was not using the accelerator at all and was lightly braking as I approached the corner. Then unexpectedly the engine revved up to 5000RPM throwing me back into my seat. Fortunately, I was able to depress the clutch and stop in time before flying off the edge of a mountain. These vehicles are not fit for sale.
