Yeah. A bit of a step for someone who knows bugger all about anything boaty you don't use paddles or oars for. I do have a dinghy that I've put a 5HP Honda on three times.

That is my thinking on the power, even for a power chicken like me, especially going 2 smoke. I'm tempted to go for a conventional hull long boat but think the pontoon will be a better option for a light dinghy. Reading up on hull design I think I'll have the outside of the pontoons pointing down to create reverse chines for a softer ride and increased lift.

With a bit of a runup and a ramp I reckon I could do it.

Would it be worth putting a forward control motor set up on it to move some weight forward?

Another good reason would be to save my back a bit of grief too by standing behind a console instead of sitting at a tiller.

For something about 4m long and weighiy about 200kg fuelled and powered on the water, operated by a busted up old wimp, ... yeah, fairly sure.

I would get it built before motor gets brought, doing the math on sheets doesn't mean crap when there's extra bits/ joints and strengthening plus most on the list above

Absolutely. Just getting ideas of what to build. So if I go forward controls then I'll want to build a console and provision for control lines. With my background I do tend to be pretty accurate with calculations.

Yeah I know but just add a bit to it, could happily lift my centre console and my jet before fit out then all the other shit adds up
Better to be over powered than understand

Knowing me I won't fit all those things, I'll just carry them aboard. For this thing the aim is a minimalist light weight dinghy. More as something to do over the break.

I have a friend who works poly pipe and plastic welding all day every day.He has built a jet boat three pontoon boats (large ) and heaps of other stuff out of poly .His advice when we wanted to build one to replace our 4.2m inflatables was don't bother.Basically it would weigh three times as much as what we have.
