    Ah! vehicles made in an age where quality counted. Toyota had a knack for making vehicles elegant yet simple (in relative terms) when designers like Honda would make things better yet far too complicated for them to have ultimate longevity.
    I think the Top Gear series where they attempted to kill the Hilux cemented its iconic status for the non Hilux owners
    Land Rovers remained far too agricultural for continued wide spread appeal (I owned three of them)
    Nissans never grabbed market share like the hiluxes did, but filled the towing niche well with their bigger donks

    And now Land Rover have lost the plot completely. Its meant to follow in the footsteps of the old classic 'Defender' but err no.

    Mate up until a Yr ago had an 84 hilux thing was a beast and would go anywhere he sold it for good coin to

Maybe that way he'd get a better look at the reality of the situation, rather than through the flawed optics of an internet forum.

    It's quite a sight, the carpark where all the utes are stored after coming into Fremantle from Thailand. Rows and rows and rows of white SR Hilux, ready to go to work. Pandered to the metro world? Are you for real?!

    All modern utes are rubbish compared to a LN65/LN106, who needs CRD, VSC, ESC, TRC, ABS, IFS, DAC, DPF, etc when you can have leaf springs and an asthmatic mechanically injected 2.4 n/a diesel

    I worked open cast in the mid 80's In South Aus. Their Toyota fleet (of LWB and SWB cruisers) was 10 years old and still going strong. I am unsure just how long a modern day Lux is good for???

    I'm pretty sure that you won't be able to buy an ecu for a modern 4x4 of any flavor in 30 years time, unlike the 4x4s of the late 80's/90's that are still going strong with spares a dime a dozen for toyos/nissans etc today

    I've had two Hilux, well one was a surf, I was pretty keen to get rid of the 2008 sheep shagger I mistakenly traded it for
    Hidden costs the dealer didn't tell you about but that you had to have done to maintain your warranty purchased with the vehicles" just in case'

    Injector seal problems , cracking pistons, early clutch burn outs

    Got 560ks outta my 1990 80s series just toured whole of the south it's my daily driver, hunting truck and farm wag. Toyotas engines are bulletproof

    One of the best ads was the one where the Rodeo from memory jumped into a corral.
    Had one single cab flatdeck 4x4.
    It wasn't a bad truck.

    Old man had mitsi L200s because the hilux salesman pissed him off by not turning up when he said he would.

    And too be honest there isn't much between them all they have 4 round black things that can get you far enough to get stuck.

    All brands appear to have the odd horror story and the gist of most is the service or lack of it.

    For Toyota ads, the Ashley pub 10 years ago on a Friday evening was a Toyota sellers dream! Sadly, pubs are almost no-go zones these days thanks to the pleasure Gestapo. My 94 3.0 TD Surf used to be one of the Friday throng. I have owned it 16 years no and wouldn't be without it. It goes wherever I point it and with total reliability, mind you, I am not one of those off-roaders that like to get all four wheels off the ground or drive into unchecked rivers to see how deep they are! Needless to say, I do my own regular servicing.
