    Elephant in the room. Ask your new mate what vehicle would be preferred. A mans best friend "must' have first choice in all important matters. LOL.

    Not in NZ far as I understood.
    Just downloaded the brochure which tends to confirm it.

    OK, thought it would be similar to what we are offered in Oz.

You can spend an entire day watching / reading about that particular debacle. Ford’s Dagenham manufacturing plant and the various parts suppliers came in for scathing criticism for the amount of serious breakages - snapped cranks, all sorts.

    When Ford took the Lion engine to America, Ford America redesigned the bottom end in an effort to fix these problems. It was sold in the F150 for a very short period of time before it was abruptly discontinued for reasons that Ford didn’t really discuss. Probably because it simply wasn’t popular, but it also had lots of niggly problems (not unusual for American engines).

    The Powerstroke is still relatively unproven in terms of high mileage reliability. Definitely not for me no matter how smooth and powerful. If it was going to be my forever ute I’d want something that’s got a lot more / better reputation behind it.
    @Flyblown

    Does that mean you'd be goosy about the new Amarok V6 diesels as well?

    Anything with VW on it scares me, rather have a Ford, plus they’re cheaper

Mine has no cat converter and is free flow from turbo back, egr is deleted, the butterfly setup that goes with it is re vacuumed to open permanently instead of rev activated, I have a remapped computer for it. It goes a noticeable 15-20 % better than stock. The Aussie blokes intercool, high flow turbo and that seems to get them really cranking. Doesn’t take away from the fact that you have to do al this to a factory vehicle in order to get half decent performance

    Interesting side line that little discussion - the 3.2L 5 cylinder is apparently a Peugeot derivative of a Renault design, and the V6 is apparently another derivative of a different Renault design also with some Peugeot mixed in there somewhere. Apparently the peoples in the Renault design department went OTT on the designing side of diesel engines and tied up a heap of patents.

    I have a 2018 MQ Triton, while cheaper than the Ranger, Hilux, Colorado and D-Max you seem to get fleeced by servicing costs. In
    saying that I don’t know what the servicing costs are of other Utes.

    As an example mine just went in for its 90,000km service (which is a big one), $1,200 later. I think the service before that was $900. I’d be curious to know what others pay for other models as a comparison.

    Same year as @Andrew46826 but Mazda bt50 basically a ford. 3 years fixed cost at $200, now it's closer to $5-600, 110,000 was belts etc and was $900. However I have now discovered there's a gold card discount of 15%
