got a stx.......coming up 200k, the seals have gone in the rear axle and I have done a few universals and the clutch was replaced at 80k for a HD version done by Nissan and recently replaced the mags also under warrenty.
did have to get the air bag light fixed which was 600 bucks, I don't like the 6 speed box and it value off road other than paddocks is limited.
it's very good on the road, a prick to park and back a trailor and the fuel eco is average compared to other 4WD's, I hear the newer models are better
it does have a lot of room for the dogs and I like the fold up back seats.
I am looking at a new truck now, would look at a new stx 450 with the auto, but am considering the holden and triton first.

The lease guy who at the end of the day doesn't care what brand I buy as they got every make and model told me the Stx autos where no way as good as toyotas autos . Im hearing the Colorados are a nice truck

The Colorados I like but the one I drove was a clattery as hell and vibrated severely under power, sales guy told me they all vibrate. The interior is better than the Ranger IMO. Pity they didn't get the 5 cylinder diesel into them, I forgive the Ranger is shortfalls when I hit the accelerator ohohohohohohohohohohohoYEAH BABY

I have had 2 STX's now the latest one is a 450. There has been a massive improvement between the older model STX and my 2012 450. Mines auto, I couldn't handle a manual again. I find the Navara quite a good truck it's got plenty of grunt and handles well. I'm just looking at replacing it at the moment and I'm looking towards the Volkswagen Amarok, for a bit more comfort and better fuel economy.

And no grunt, but they handle well. IMO if it has VW on it take a wide berth, I own Golf

I couldn't care less about possible issues, I won't own it out of warranty and all the makes seem to have issues anyway. I'm doing 60ks a year and comfort and economy are the major factors for me. The VW has 420 nm of torque what's wrong with that?

Tow a trailer? My mate has one, had the model Colorado before the new one and says the Colorado had a lot more get up and go. 2 litre twin turbo? And bloody expensive

Yea tow a 2.5 ton boat. I can't see power being a issue. Forget that the motor is a 2l it means nothing, it makes similar power and torque as the others.

I've always found Ford owners to be terribly one eyed.

My previous two utes were Holdens! First Ford I've owned. I think 2 litre ringing is arse off just doesn't make sense! My land rover freelander had one of those! The five cylinder, Volvo designed engine sold me on the Ford, I get about 8.7 litres per 100 ks cursing at 103 ks per hour on my gps. Can get down to 8.4 if I drive at 90 ks

I get 8.2 l/100km driving at 110kmh or 7.8 if I drop down to 100kmh out of my navara. Personally I think a Volvo engine is more likley to be a troublesome euro and from the reports I've heard they are having more than there share of failures.

You are failing to see my point about the 2l engine in the amarok. It makes peek torque lower in the rev range than any other ute due to it having sequential twin turbos. So it's not revving its ring out to make the power and torque, it's just a more advanced engine than the rest.
You can forget the engine size completely just look at the power and torque figures.

Also the amarok has had plenty of engine upgrades since its been out. Did your mate have one of the new 420 nm ones?

His would be 12 months old now, to each his own IMO 2 litres just doesn't do it, no matter how many hair dryers. It's a performance engine, you need a slogger in a ute, not stressing the shit out off everything. My cosworth put out 240 hp but I wouldn't want it in a ute!
Doesnt an 8 speed auto tell you something! My golf 2005 had a new gearbox at 15 k and radiator at 45 k just hi maintenance.read up on the Toureg Geeze you wouldn't want one of them and that's the same floor pan as the Porche cayenne and you wouldn't want one of those either. But if your happy go for it, my Fords far from perfect, just made sense to me for what I use it for, 2 months in I'm still smiling

An 8 speed auto is a massive advantage not a disadvantage. All the new euro autos are 7 or 8 speed and they set the pace among the auto industry.
I wouldn't base the realibility of a amarok off your experiences with your golf. It's an entirely different vehicle. While I would tend to agree with you that the euros don't have the best track record of reliability, you must remember that I don't intend to carry the liability of the possible issues so I'm not really worried about it. They have been on the market for some time now and have proven to be pretty good in realibility terms anyway.

While your on your high horse saying how good that ranger engine is, my friend runs a fleet of utes, he has 14 manual new model rangers and 6 have had to have the gearboxes replaced and two have hand grenaded the fuel pumps. Also another friends farther had one that had so many electrical problems he ended up selling it through frustration.
All of that won't put me off considering a Ranger when I change tho, however the VW is looking to be the best option out there for me at the moment.

You have to make your own decisions as have I. I could get a Ford for 43 k they offered me the new 8 speed VW for 61k there not 18 k better.
Put you big trailer on with a couple of tonne on it up a hill, like the Kaimais or Rimutakas if yr happy go for it. I believe 8 speed means more working parts and no doubt under powered, but hey that's just my thoughts

But they are not under powered they are middle of the ute class power and torque wise. I can't see why you old school guys can't see that power dosent only come from displacement. It seems no matter how many times I say that you are not listening. I had a 930 HP 2l about 6 years ago, I suppose that was gutless to being only a 2l?

If you only paid 43k for you ranger you haven't got a top spec one which is what you have compared it with in the 61k amarok.
