A classic example of what happens when a viable company is controlled by accountants and university graduates (plus bolshy unionists). It just gets top-heavy and falls over! The crap about the small RH drive market being the reason is just garbage. It is a piece of cake to design a vehicle that is both ambidextrous and stylish. It is a shame to lose a great marque. I have owned many Holdens from the old FJ right through to an HSV GTO and have had an excellent run out of all of them. Oh well, I still have my Chevs!

GM will go the way of british leyland if they arent careful. too top heavy, relying on top ups from the taxpayer with a workforse who hold the company to ransom if someone stubs their toe while working

Actually emphasis is slightly around the other way. Isuzu is underpinning the BT 50 replacement via the new D Max.

Also GM (and Toyota) no longer have a share in the ownership of Isuzu which I would say is a good thing.

Isuzu got out of GM years ago when GM went bankrupt.

Vauxhall has been sold to Peugot, who have promptly closed that brand down.

ALL RHD GM products have been canned which is the big thing that come out of this GM announcement. Thats globally.... ALL RHD are done.

I'd say they're in the poo big time and are restructuring.
Dealerships here and in Aussie will be sweating. Parts and servicing only for the next 3yrs and possibly up to 10yrs, then all over rover.

What will be the value a recently purchased "Commodore"/Opel/Pug when the owner comes to sell or trade in the future?

Chev make the same as a colorado in the mid size truck.
    https://www.chevrolet.com/trucks/previous-year/colorado

Gm is getting out of all right hand drive vehicles, we should expect to see, along with Japanese, more euro eg BMW, Renault, Fiat etc on ours and Aussie roads
The factory that made Colorado in Thailand has been sold to the Chinese.

Anyone care to speculate on why they're axing all rhd cars

That's a big market if they can make something decent and affordable

Holden tech has been 10-15yrs behind everything else. GM have done zero development for them as the Holden market is less than 1% of the global market. Why keep a dying brand going and losing money hand over fist?

Interesting thing is Holden in Aussia and NZ have the second largest dealer network (2nd to Toyota) and have less then 4% of the Aussie market and less than 3% of the NZ market.
Toyota Corolla sold more product than Holdens total sales in NZ alone last year.

Toyota have signed a deal to supply NZ Police with vehicles from what I understand.
At least they'll be able to fit the crooks into the back of them, unlike the new Commodores where they've had to do a swap the 600 sedans for wagons already.

I’ve been a Holden fan since I did my apprenticeship at Manthel Motors in Porirua in the 80s. They lost the plot recently when the put the commodore badge on a 4 cylinder front wheel drive car.
I was wondering what I would buy when it’s time to replace my v6 2005 VZ, now at least I know it won’t be a Holden.
I’m 6 foot tall and my Holden is great for driving long distances in comfort. 30min in my work Toyota van and I can’t walk properly.
I suspect I’ll be looking for something German.

Ha, I forgotten about them, my first job was to replace big end bearings on a brand new one. I’ll remove my rose tinted glasses.
