    https://www.stuff.co.nz/motoring/118...0-going-hybrid

not that i could ever afford a land crab ........but i thought the whole market for these things was the unbreakable reliability and sheer power and fuck the fuel consumption cos if you can afford one you can afford to feed it.......
might as well go buy a prius

Don't have an issue with hybrid technology, but I would want the stepped CVT transmission.
Why even bother with CVT if you are making it stepped?
There are lots of good reliable auto transmissions with 6, 8, 9 or 10 gears out there.

The beauty of electric is you cut out the clutch and gear box. But when you go hybrid you still need every single bit. Waiting for a day when they'll make a hybrid which consists of a plug-in electric AWD with an optional roof mounted diesel gen set for longer trips. Run on rapeseed oil if you like.

It's simply an observation based on my my own struggles with the stuff. I have only had part of a pack, I'm not a heavy user.

If they want to sell them in Europe they may not have a choice, very strict rules and heavy taxes around emissions etc over there.

Problem is the new emission regulations manufacturers have to abide by now. The reason Toyota, and pretty much everyone else as well, is going V6 is because the V8's wont meet the new regs.
So smaller capacity is the only way to get round it.
The V6 twin turbo actually makes more HP and KW than the V8.

The V8 has been plagued with issues anyway. The EGR system blocks badly, and the engines suck dust in which in turn buggers up the turbos and then engine. We've replaced lots at work.
After seeing what we have to do to them all the time, I wouldn't touch 1...not without a new car warranty anyway.

While i agree to a point. If you choose to bypass the warranty and get rid of the oil mist through the intercooler, egr block and another fuel filter this solves a lot of the issues and gives you a very reliable long lasting engine,Plenty of high km examples floating around oz with zero issues.

Yes we have a few that come into work that have done high ks.
Lots on the other hand haven't done feck all, and have fallen over rather hard.
Dust ingress is the biggest killer by far. Lots been tried. Nothing fixed that issue yet.

Are these mine vehicles that have been abused or the like? Plenty of after market sealed air boxes for them from numerous companies in oz.Most on the 79series forum don't seem to have a issue with the air box myself included.I have found you do need to spend a little initially to stop the known faults right from the start.Pretty solid work horse otherwise and I have broken a few of the other brands.

Or are you talking about the 200 series air box fault that was sorted a while back by changing the gasket to solve the issue?
