Meh. Buy 2nd hand jeep wrangler. You'll get a kitted out one pretty cheap.
I'm drawn to the mountains and the bush, it's where life is clear, where the world makes the most sense.
I Agree Josh that's what I'd do or buy an older Landy Defender - But because they last so long those things cost an arm and the perverbial for the post 2000 ones. They sold the last of the Army V8 Petrol ones a few years ago didn't they out of Trentham ???
The SWB Wranglers and Sizuki Vitara's seem to now be filling this mould and turning up at the local off road clubs that seem to be a thumbs up vote for me..
I just want me something with a fold-down front window for pot-shotting the hares on the farm.....
The NZ Mahindra site says they are NOT able to be road registered , and so does the local dealer that has one on the show room floor .
RE the Jeep Wrangler , yes a option , BUT , bloody hell , its got a 4Litre donk , my car is 1.3L , and I cannot afford to feul that , let a lone a 4L .
Meh - your 1.3 litre is gonna do a shite load more KM's over tar seal than for a specifically bought off-roader - if that really is what you're saying here it's still faster than walking and extra grunt does come in handy...
If you're worried about fuel consumption go the Suzuki route with a old Vitara or FJ - much lighter frame chassis. Still remember driving these on a entertainment day over at Off Road NZ just out of rotorua a number of years ago. Amazing where these little wagons would go with 4 adults inside too.
Some of you guys will know better than me but a mate researching offroad options told me that a 4WD fitted with a permanent front A frame and towed behind the regular vehicle does not need to be reg'd on the road - If this is true then one of these could be brought along to the roadend then set free
Probably too much bother but if true it might suit some people's style
