P.S. with the forks reversed the steering axis would point in front of the ground contact and make it act funky.

Did you bring it over from the UK? As I know from seeing several that Halfords a major chain over there had a habit of assembling bikes with the forks reversed for a while.
Lol - some Manitou shocks have a reverse arch that look a bit funky, but the brakes definitely shouldn't be behind the stanchions!
Only top end bikes hold their value. If your wife is wanting to get rid of it then why not gift it to someone in need esp if resale is stuff all? Not everyone wants to/able to, I get that, we did it with the 3 bikes we upgraded this year. 2 kids 1 adult all had low resale value. Knew some struggling familys through kids school that wanted wheels but couldn't afford them. I gave them a bit of tune up before we gave them away. The kids absolutly loved them.
