Drive shaft universals? Just a stab in the dark but with it only being when you mention it with only when acceleration that what what it was with my Nissan. Stared as a whine the escalated to a thump.
Nil durum volenti !!
Cheers for all the replies.
Not 100% it is the diff.
I'll clarify a few things and see where that gets us.
Definitely out of 4wd.
I have owned it for the last 18months and had no river crossings in my time. But likely that it did crossing before i got it. However I did a diff oil change when i got it in April last year. Auto transmission was serviced at the same time.
Don't even get me started on the Mother Inlaw @Steverusty
Pinion doesn't seem to have any play in it.
No whine at lower speeds or running around town. Seems to be at higher speeds and when you are putting the foot down/heavy load i.e going uphill.
The truck does not get a lot of work. Driven once a week by the missus as I work out of Laos or Australia chasing gold. Flying out on Monday for a stint till NY so will head to the local mechanic to get his opinion this arvo.
Tyres perhaps
Looks like the muffler/catalytic converter is blocked. Gonna get that looked to to see if that sorts it. Cheers for all the info guys.
Appreciate it
If it's a rear wheel bearing you should notice a change in noise when turning in different directions.
Definitly sounds like a diff or gearbox problem, dump the oils and see if there's a sign in that.
the normal diff whine i get is "take it out of my arse" !
