    Reasonable Rental Car in NZ?

Gonna be in NZ mid Feb for a few weeks.

Anyone aware of a decent cost-effective rental car company?
My biggest hurdle is that I'm picking up in Auckland, and dropping off in Queenstown 12 days later. The one way charge is killing me on prices.

    Thanks for the help!

we have used juicy and apex for car rental and spaceships for a small camp set up, toyota previa or similar type of thing as that type of camper is cheaper to take across on the ferry.

This site specialises in one way movements, You get better rates because you're moving them FOR the rental company. Looks to be only short notice though.

About NZ used to do good deals but not sure about them now. its been a while.

Depending on what costs there are, consider buying a cheapie and selling it at the other end - There used to be a few campers etc that would pop up as freedom campers sold off when they left

I'd say it going to be very difficult to get a low price rental with the route you are taking. Unfortunately a lot of tourist have the same plan. Too late to change your trip direction?

I don't think you will find a cheap price with that one way journey, relation for the company is going to be expensive and the is probably the most common journey for tourists to take.

As far as recommendations for a company, we have used: EZI, Jucy, RAD, EZU and Hansen (in Cromwell) in recent years.
Basically every trip we do we end up with a different company as no one seems to always be the cheapest.

Jucy used to always be pretty cheap but don't work if you need to do after hours pickup/return.

You won’t find anything cheap in NZ. Be prepared to be ripped off on everything (apart from beer maybe). Sad but true.

One way domestic airfare from Auckland to Queenstown - and then do your road trip in reverse.

The one way relocation outfits may do a very cheap rate.

How much is the rental costs you’re being quoted ? Buying a cheap run around & then selling at the end might work out cheaper. One of my sons is involved in car wholesale trade. He’d be able to give some idea how it works

    Cheap beer? In NZ?

Maybe at a small tavern where only locals drink, otherwise beer is ridiculously priced here.
Not to mention the lack of a standard sized glass, so you never know what quantity you are paying for.
Or when a bloody restaurant advertises a pint of beer and it's not actually a pint!

Sorry, beer in pubs/restaurants is a sore point for me.
I might even lobby ACT to introduce standardised pint measurements like they have in the UK.

Now that is something a lot would get behind when is a Pint not a Pint? When its a handle

And what's with those prissy 10oz glasses?
