Good thing about the colorado/dmax are they have been around for a while, plenty of cheap secondhand 16" rims about to put the work tyres on, rather than forking out for tyres of 18" rims and the premium that goes with them.

    Two points.

With regards to experience with tyres, I have never had Coopers. But I have had such an awesome run with a set of Kumho KL71 MT tyres that I would automatically have to put these at the top of any list I would consider.

As for the existing tyres, do what I did and get a second set of (steel) rims forma wrecker that fit your truck, and fit the MUDs / Offroads to these. It is not hard to swap a set over and it is very handy to have a complete spare set when you need them. Then if I am doing a long road trip or towing I get the road set on, and if spending heading off road or expecting to see slush I flick over to the Muds.

A mate had them on his Nissan ute and it always started to aquaplane at 65-70km/h with the slightest rain. Very uncomfortable feeling.

It wont have been aquaplaning inless bald its just a combination of a small contact patch and a compound that doesnt grip wet stone well.

Ok I'm about to get and her for suggesting "budget" tires but I have had a fair few as had the old man. I have had 2 sets of Good ride Mud Legend Tyres. Both have last in excess of 60,000kms. They don't get slippy in the wet as they wear like a bunch of Muds do. They are relatively quiet. They are also and almost pisstake in they are a blatant copy of BF Goodrich KM2s. The old man brought Cooper STT pros and they wore out in under 30,000kms needless to say he lost his shot and went and brought Goodrides in the standard "maxxis" type tread. These wore at a similar rate but we're much cheaper. They did however get slippy as they wore. He then got a set of the mud legends they same as mine and has done near on 50,000Kms with around 6mm tread left that is still actually able to grip the ground unlike some other brands. I have driven Hankook RT03s but they didn't have great grip off-road and were on the noisey side however they wore great. Have had the Bridgestone Muds they were worse than the Goodrides SL366 and not cheap. So now I run my second set of 285/75R16 Goodride Mud Legends SL386 (this model is very important) on my 09 Lux. My brother runs these on his 018 Lux. My old man runs these on his 70 Series Cruiser and the 265/75R16 version on his 2014 Lux. I can highly recommend them. Another perk is that for the price you can almost buy a set of new rims in 16 inch diameter and this will mean even if you don't like them you will be able to buy cheaper tires.

Or if you want to keep the 18s. I would change though as more side wall is better typically.

They did but it was only on the mud tyres and im not a huge fan of those.
BFG is a better M/T tyre then the Cooper BUT i believe the new Cooper is better than the BFG in a A/T.
There is so many tyres out there on the market and im not a expert and don't claim to know it all about all of them but the ones i suggest are the ones that i see doing the business....i love being a independent tyre dealer rather than working for one of the corporate stores where you can only sell what they manufacture.

About 8mm tread on at the time. I think the compound was too hard, but the size of the lugs didn't help either. A few people I've talked to had the same issue. Was asking around when I needed new tyres for the new wagon. I ended up buying fairly cheap stuff and they're half worn out at 35,000km.

They also suck at almost anything but full tread. Mate got sting buying a a set with 8mm tread. Absolutely useless.

I've been in the fixing cars game long enough and just want to point out there are 2 sides to every story. I've put the same new tyres on a truck that have done 80km one and 15km on another. The reason? The second bloke went out off road on a regular basis and never checked anything afterwards. Came in for WOF and I knocked him on both front tyres because both steering rack ends were bent causing both front wheels pointing in different directions and hence shit tyre life. How he couldn't feel it drove like shit is beyond me and besides the point. All I'm trying to say is if you don't look after your tyres particularly the pressure and the alignment tyres will wear. Like I said 2 sides to every story and bad news always travels quicker
