"slip on" firefighting or washdown units...

Ok, bit of a random question, anyone got any experience of these - things to avoid or good features to have? Good suppliers for them? Looking into this for going into the back of a ute...

I made my own. Started with a Davis fire fighting pump and one of those thousand litre pods (IBCs). Some flexible hose, then a decent length of Dairy shed washdown hose with an adjustable nozzle.

Was way cheaper than a retail unit, and was able to upscale it when I picked up a $50 farm trailer that was big enough for 2 x IBC's.

Things to bear in mind: The IBC's have a valve that isn't made to last long, so best to install a proper 2 inch ball valve downstream.

The petrol driven fire fighting pumps can lift a few metres, so have a small section of flex pipe with a crude filter for lifting water out of a stream or dam.

Bloody handy bit of kit. Will water quite a few animals for a week if plumbed into a small water trough, useful when having a big bonfire, or washing the bejeezus out of your mud encrusted 4x4.

the IPC on farmbike trailer setups for calf milk are pretty potent units...can squirt milk a good 2 meters with just the petrol pump type nozzle....

Recently put this unit together for work. Australian made with a Honda motor and Davey pump. 25mm reel is perfect for fires and putting a 41mm hose on is amazing for wash downs.
Drafts really fast, 3-5 minutes for 800 litres. There are bigger and smaller units too. Kept away from IBC's as after a couple of years of bouncing doing big k's on dirt roads they are likely to fail

@Brakelie what was approximate cost for that version and do you have an idea of the slightly smaller 600L one's cost? Probably needing a smaller tank for this application as it's gotta go into a ute as far as the current concept goes...

It was about $7k, the agents in the Hawkes Bay are Power Farming. They have to bring them in, not a stock item. Trailer was a separate purchase.
Not sure about the 600 litre ones sorry and yes that would be about your max for a ute slip on.

Yeah, there’s plenty of fat in the 7k.

I've got a set up like this for dipping sheep, had heavy use for 10 years still going strong.
