Just the way it is these days. Throw away society
I still haven't got over stopping at Easterns in hawks bay in a truck, and hearing a mechanic telling a truck driver it would be cheaper to replace the whole diff rather than just the ring gear which had stripped two teeth.
I can't figure how that works.

Probably save about a gazillion Robertsons in labour costs.

    Not sure about that

I could get a single axle truck diff down to the crownwheel in 30 mins with 3/4 to one inch drive air tools

A uselessly small item of currency that is soon to become obsolete

I thought that. But the diff was already apart, hence how he found out. Its what first git my interest before I overhead the mechanic. So that's about a third of cost. I assuming he still had to pay for that labour regardless.
Judging by your thumb nail pic, you will be aware of how much a kick in the wallet a rebuilt diff would be.

Just in my small circle , almost all at some stage.

Thats how you wash the carpets

They are older though , doesn't work so well with the newer stuff.
Electrics & water can get expensive.

I vividly recal the lada niva with water flowing in one door and out the other, mid shin deep...and she just carried on happy as pig in pooh.
water 3" deep inside the ford escort, same deal, wet carpets needed taking out to dry.
my little honda MB100 2stroke...last school C exam all roads out of kaitieke were closed,I went through a mud slide with mud up over 3/4 of way up wheels put put put put through and off to Taumarunui I went lower legs covered in wet mud...got to school and borrowed some strides from lost property to sit through exan then headed off homewards again hoping roads had been reopened.

I read this thread hoping everyone's current favourite southerner was going to post saying he drives his Swift, or whatever, through flooded rivers and returns with 23 deer, 48 ducks, 3 pigs and a partridge in a fucken pear tree strapped on.

I am with Micky on this. Mr and Mrs Richard Cranium (a.k.a. Dick Head) could see the water was higher than normal and could see that the embankment on the other side had been washed away yet still chose to take their unsuited vehicle for a swim. When asked, Minister James Shaw said “Climate Change was to blame” but another interviewee, local man Don T Bedumb said “Dick has lived here for years but the silly cunt still put his Greenie wind up in the water”.
