I will definitely take your opinion unquestionably now!

20 years of reliable motoring must be all in my head

By the way, I don’t disagree that the current VWs do have their reliability issues especially regarding electrics, but to make an unqualified statement on an open forum that the original hot hatch that started the hot hatch genre and ruled it pretty much the the entire time is just trolling.

Considering that Volkswagen is the world's biggest car manufacturer, they must be doing something right. You know... that same position that Toyota occupied for so many years.

Must be doing something right to acquire those brands (some of which they've held for many years notwithstanding).

And how many American homes used to have an old Beetle parked outside? No matter how bad the weather got they knew they would start and, with the motor position and air cooling, move.

    Fixed it.

Don't confuse good with well marketed, and as far as sales stats go you could include other alliances together. But there is so much part supply all over the show it is like shovelling liquid jelly with a pitch fork to try and work out the true numbers over the years. Fords with Renault motors, Nissans sold as Fords, Holdens (GM) with Nissan engines, .... Isuzus sold as Hondas and Vauxhals and Opels.

Yes indeed. My first car, a shitshow on wheels known as a Pontiac LeMans. Actually a Daewoo with an Opel engine.

I remember those at the rental company. They went very well. Holden, at the time, not so much with the last of the 202 motors.
