Cheers Lethal, a cheaper one might be the goer for a first one, and flick it if i reall love it. NZHTR I've got a mate with a 250 that should let me have a rip - but A few people have mentioned about going for a 230 to start with etc. I like that it would be quiet.

What did you choose in the end, - a crf230 would be perfect !

Just read this whole thread, gave me an idea!, now that I seem to have stopped racing, I could put knobblies on my superbike! 200hp at the wheel will solve most problems surely?

One of my mates in Oz regularly used his Tuono V-twin as an off-roader (usually going too quick).
Got tired of extracting it from the scrub, so got an Tenere 1200 instead.
Used to have a KTM 300 two smoke, but ended up in hospital too many times.
I'd decided to get off a CBR1000RR, after OD-ing on adrenaline at 285kmh (police radar). Copper didn't believe his radar gun, so let me off with a warning.
Swapped it for a Husqvarna TE450 - two trips to hospital (crushed veterbrae and concussion). Decided that I should get some practise on a DT230 - one trip to hospital - crushed veterbrae/concussion getting to close to the neck.
Decided dirt 2wheelers and I don't 'gel' - now punting a BMW R1200RT, and enjoying life without hospital visits.
IF I was going back on dirt - quaddie for me. 4 wheels can hurt, but you do go a lot slower. Tipping over isn't fun, so 'calculated risk management' - or walk.

Saw some aid boys ridding 100cc Yamaha's back in late 2003 up in Kalemie, Congo. Had a yarn with them why so small a bike.
They said they wer the best as light enough to get over downed trees and through bogs. Really bad roads out there.
Also less noise which I took was a good thing as attention usually was followed by bullets
Had to take my hat off to these guys I think they worked for care international.
Yep just found this link Democratic Republic of Congo: Treating sleeping sickness in the forests | Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) International
