    Great idea, but I've already sold the boat and rented out the house!

    I'm definitely looking closely at the more recent NX Pajeros, and the Pajero Sport gets reasonable reviews too.

    The other one that has caught my eye from reviews is the 2017 or newer Jeep Grand Cherokee in 3L turbo diesel.

    Jeep got a really bad rep in WAmahor warranty and shit service issues. It might be better now , but they harmed their image with shit customer service , wascissues with parts taking 6 llus weeks from states etc . These were minor parts , not trannies or engines

    Yeah, I've read that their brand (Jeep) really took a big hit with reliability issues and shit after-sales service, but have read a few more recent reviews which say the 17' onwards models are very reliable and that the shit service is also a thing of the past.

    Definitely not set on a Jeep, but don't want to write it off as an option just yet.

    Land Cruiser or if you like the look of a Fortuner they are just a hilux with an SUV body, same engine and a bit more luxury. In terms of the DPF issues there is a recall to get them replaced free of charge with a new one that supposedly shouldn’t have any issues as they have a newer catalyst / filter which should convert properly this time around without blocking up.

    2018 was a lot of shit for jeep in WA they lost a court case re servicing/ warranty. Then they settled for about 7 claims afterwards.

    Buy a Y62 nissan patrol V8,all bases covered.400hp.Just shut yr eyes at the fuel pump with a 140litre fuel tank.But they reckn you will get a 800 ks + towing something.

    Haha yeah, the v8 in factory trim is a thirsty pig. You don't get anything for free, and for all it's many issues (and they are legion) the Ranger PX series is one of the more economical and better performing options out of the pack so far. They appear a lot of times in the failure stats but if you look at the dirty unloved cousin (the BT50 mazda version) that is mechanically identical for all practical purposes yet is considered a lot better in terms of reliability. It's actually bloody near identical, the issue here is that less BT50's were sold than Rangers do everyone hears about the mate who's ranger shit itself.

    The Hilux's and Isuzu's have just as many issues as do the Mitsi's but one thing especially in favour of the Mitsi in NZ is the 10 year/5 year warranty package.

    Jeez, your a masochistic type aren't you? Enjoy getting the old pain inflicted... The problem with these things is they are not the same as the ones of old pre-emissions bs. The newer versions seem to run off license-built European tech engines and drivetrains, and they do provide their share of employment for the maintainers. Probably designed in to everything these days though to be fair.

    Yes but what does it cost you in servicing costs to maintain that warranty?

    Landcruisers are nice, but they definitely suck a lot more fuel, our ones at work use almost twice the fuel that my DMAX does. Great for towing but unless you're towing 3+ Ton everyday then it's overkill.

    I'd be looking at a Prado, then at the MUX/Everest etc, they will handle a 2.5t boat.

    Well, if that's in the mix I know of a young guy who has fitted one of those BMW 3L TD to an 80 series. The torque is off the chart.
