A comment on the little M1 Archers ..

This is a light Brian and I pondered for several months. It's little but has an extremely high performance LED in it. In initial form it produced alot of heat which we don't want, but over time we've experimented and made some tweaks to avoid this problem. We have set its high mode (800m) at 3 minutes before automatic stepdown to medium (575m). We don't do 'stepdowns' normally, but in this case we've said yes because this is basically a wee 22 scope light, it'll sit on the rifle, and more often than not just be switched on and off for popping rabbits. It will less often be used for full time spotlighting - that's the M24/2X/XPro job. But .. it certainly can do field scanning etc in high mode, or in medium. I didn't really notice much difference between 800m Hi and 575m Medium when using them in the field. So M1 Archer best as a scope light, will also do spotting if necessary, though not nearly as good as the bigger Maxtochs.

Wirehunt - here's the aliexpress info on HO1R. Note - we don't use cheap wee chargers on offer here. We stay with alot better double charger with wall/usb/car adaptors, and ability to do both 18650s and the new 21700 batts. HO1R a sturdy little unit, 1000 lumens, about 100m range, 5 white and 2 red modes, usb charger cable. I use mine most out of its headstrap as a wee freestanding light:

Mudgripz so it can be charged directly via usb? Or does the battery have to come out? And have you got them on the shelf or do you prefer us to buy through Ali?

Side note: I long for the day torches are not all black. Bright blue, hot pink, fluro green are sensible colours for torches unless you live in the Antarctic, then black is good. But for the rest of us black sucks as the amount of time spent at night looking for those black torches is hideous.
    Same goes for magazines

Wire - HO1R can be charged directly with batt in it by its usb plug in. If you're running headlamp alot (or using any other 18650 gear) then a good 2-batt charger best.

No - NZ clients buy through me rather than aliexpress. We have just set up all systems and full consignment/stocks will here within couple of weeks.

Colors - I think they do colours in other lights... I like black but if enough people wanted different colours it could certainly be done.

@Wirehunt...... buy some glow in the dark powder off trade me for stuff all...go to $2 shop and buy some nail varnish in whatever colour you like (agree hot pink is good, blue better) mix some GITD powder in with nail polish and go to it...works good on the light switches around the house too, front sight/beads are awesome ....

Did think about something along those lines micky but wondered about it affecting the heat retention of the light.

Great news - the new concept Maxtoch LR headlamp in production in 2 weeks, so should be available not long after. This is a wee beauty - it is miles ahead of any other hunting headlamp on the planet. Very simple, quite small, not too heavy for an LR at about 270gms including pair of 18650s, ideal beam balance (long distance centre hotspot plus plenty of flood for scanning), excellent CRI (tint - colour temperature), and one push infinitely variable mode switch - you can choose any output level you like. And a 540m max range. Mmmmm... Took 2-3 years and now its due.. It went out for last full field test to Shane (4 Boars on other Fish n Hunt site) down in Waimate. This is his feedback after couple of night shoots on roos:

"I took the maxtoch LR headlamp out for another run shooting wallabies. Like most things new, you have to use them 2 or 3 times to evaluate how good they are. The second time out with this headlamp, its very good. I`m not up there on the technical stuff, I will leave that to the experts. My thoughts on the practical side of this headlamp, I can`t fault it, light colour is very good for spotting animals, has very good distance for a headlamp (better than anything else I have used). Also as Mudgripz said it is good for sweeping paddocks. The sliding switch is a great new innovation, great for gutting and reloading when dimmed down. The design of the headband and the positioning of the headlamp, in my opinion is very good, not big and glumsy like some headlamps. It looks simple and well put together, the last thing a hunter wants is a malfunction in the middle of the night. I was out for 2.5hrs and didnt need to change the batteries but the headlamp was turned off when shooting. Another 32 roo`s in the chiller.

I think Mudgripz n Gadgetman have done a great job of designing this headlamp, as I have said I have been wanting a light like this for years. It keeps night shooting by yourself simple.
I can`t really suggest any improvements Mudgripz, except get this light into production so us hunters can get them out in the fields. Cheers "

That's pretty cool. From the field. Heaps of lights on their way now...

One thought - had yarn with Dan from Taupo last night - he rang to sort out exact lights for his uses. If anyone unclear what you need, send me a PM then call me to find out which Maxtoch best..

    Cheers Mike

Put my name on one of those head torches when they arrive please Mike.

Ill give it to the young fella for his birthday, he will be stoked. His current one is a waste of time.

Also don't forget to let me know when you have some new chargers in stock.

Cheers again for the top service

    Great news Muddy
Put me down for 1 when they get here. I really like the idea of the switch on these, should be great for both long range and close work

Let me know when the headlights are here and I'll take two.
Are you bringing spare head gear in for them?

As a comparison point in NZ, Led Lenser offer two longer range headlamps.

There is their H14r.2 which weighs 340gms, has range of 300m, and costs $299. Then their big XEO19R lamp weighs 478gms, range 300m, cost $499-549.
The new Maxtoch LR weighs about 280gms with 2x18650s in it, has range of 540m, and will cost ?? $150?

There are long range headlamps on aliexpress - big miner type lights which claim range of 500-800m. Might be true - might also be chinese meters!

As with every design we do, maximum range is never the sole criterion. Always after the whole package with a light - i.e. light weight, reliability, quality build, extreme output, optimum beam balance, optimum colour tint, runtimes, latest LED tech, switching etc.
