I like backcountry. Can't be assed making my own. Yeah it's not a cheap meal, but you're paying for convenience and lack of weight.
The lamb and beef are ok. Cottage pie and mashed potato are good. The porridge is REALLY GOOD surprisingly. Better than I could make with a kitchen.
Stay away from the spag bol the salt levels were insane in the one we tried. There was one other that was really bad too but I can't remember.
I get the sizes where it says they serve two. Even my wife can finish one of those, so you won't be over-full. If you're a small eater you could get away with the single serves.
I had one suggestion for improvement that I passed on to them. The edges of the packs can be surprisingly sharp. When i'm packing them in with so much lightweight gear i'm worried about them ripping a tent or sleeping mat or jacket. I even went to the extent of folding the edges and taping them down one trip where they got packed in among stuff I really didn't want them cutting.

I picked up a heap yesterday quite cheap (real cheap $5 each). Didn't know they made ones that serve 5!!
That is a very good deal there Gibo.
There are only three types of people in this world. Those that can count, and those that can't!
Our bulk buy deal is about that cost isn't it?

The Backcountry one? 1 serve is $5.95 + GST. 2 serve is $8.80 + GST, 5 serve is $19.95 + GST. So he's got a great deal. Check the expiry dates!!.
By the way nobody seems to man that Backcountry bulk buy thread. I ended up having to email them direct and say I was a member here to get the order form.
The serve 5s are almost too big. Guess ok if you have someone to share them with.
Try Absolute Wilderness from Nelson. A bit more expensive than B/Country but kilojoules to weight ratios are much better and it actually tastes like food. I used to swear by B/country food but it gets old quick. I'll still use it but prefer Absolute Wilderness stuff.
I'm drawn to the mountains and the bush, it's where life is clear, where the world makes the most sense.
Another for the Absolute Wilderness, the portion sizes might be a bit small for some but they're bang on for me and I managed to get through ten days of them without ending up hating them. Struggle with the Backcountry meals these days, something about them isn't quite right, a weird generic flavouring or something. Will give the Kawekas a nudge one of these days.
