I used the XD75 on a .223 a few weeks back, shooting rabbits and wallabies in tussock. It was great fun, need to go back for another go :-)
    Yeah it's a XD75.
No apart from some magpies I haven't shot anything with it nor will I.
It's main use is finding deer at dusk.
Great bit off kit, is getting a sore eye just part of the parcel with using high end thermal gear?

I found just running them on the most dim setting did the trick, even then makes you blind when its dark. Getting the focus just right makes a big difference to when looking for awhile

You gotta make sure you use your non shooting eye so you can still shoot while temporally blind lol

Dont waste your time chasing every last fps, it doesnt matter in the real world, it wont make a difference, all it will do is cause head aches and frustrations. And dont listen to silly old cunts

A client popped around to grab a new power lead, he uses a Pulsar Quantum and a Pulsar Apex for shooting deer on various farms, and selling the meat. He bought the gear last November, and has using it hard-out, shooting over 200 deer. But during our chat, he showed me a PDF map of DOC's planned 1080 campaign. The map was split into red = definate, blue = maybe, yellow = not at all. The red was just about everywhere. I mainly looked at my own area, and it started at the top of the Kahurangi, and spread right down to include Fiordland. He told me that he had access to this map because he is licensed to sell venison for human consumption.

So here we are, debating the rights and wrongs of a tiny minority, when our Department of Conservation are planning to wipe-out deer en masse, and in the process, kill thousands of protected birds. It's bloody shocking.
    So obviously not this map?

Both the Pulsar Quantum Lite XQ23 and XQ30 look like a good deal at the NZ retail price as advertised by Yukon Optics.

The XQ30 has a slightly (+100m) better claimed detection range which is probably related to the fact that it has a raw optical magnification of 2.5x as opposed to the 1.8x optical magnification of the XQ23.

Both have a 50 Hz frame / refresh rate so you'll have no problem quickly scanning a paddock.

Went for the XQ23 as I only need max range of 400-500 metres. Wanted the wider field of view the XQ23 offered.

Yes - that is correct Re FOV
    Less magnification
Had a XQ39 Quantum last year and got rid off for the reason of FOV and too high min magnification
The XP38 is a good choice with its 38mm + low 1.9x starting magnification.
You get what you pay for Re Thermal imaging - the XP Helion range is great - but at a cost

The XQ30v has a smaller aperture than the XQ23v, f1.6 v f1.4. Though not hugly different, makes a huge difference for reducing cost of unit. The previous Quntum HD, XD, and XQ had apertures of f1.2.
